From what I've seen in the gameplay videos, the game looks very very easy and slow paced. Definitely not a constant challenge, more of an exploration game with some casual character building and storytelling. I guess this would be an ideal game for people looking for a social experience. I get that all day in real life, but I can understand the appeal.

Hate to keep referencing it but Destiny has social aspects and casual-ish character building too, albeit the pacing is decent for competitive and challenge-seeking players. Perhaps that's what made it popular among all different types of players. I don't think 76 will reach close to that level mind you, but it still may surprise us to an extent.

Bethesda not going with Steam distribution on PC is somewhat risky, but I completely understand the motive. Steam has become the #1 dumping ground for half-finished games that immature and toxic (and possibly inbred) players, who apparently have nothing better to do or contribute, can argue about. They've stated that they want more direct relationship for players and that they'd prefer to avoid commission to Valve but I also don't like having to download new "always-online" launchers. That's sort of where we are though...

Its not on steam? Well that makes this easy then, no steam/gog = no play for me.

One always online DRM client spying on me is enough, not going to install one from every dev studio.

No human NPC's, correct. If you watch some of the video's from the press event there are very few NPC's in general. There were a few bots and one friendly super mutant that I saw, but that was it. This is not like Fallout 3 or 4. You will not have cities with people in them. It's a different type of game.

Steam is really losing it's luster to me, they allow so many shitty games on there, they really need to step up their moderation.

Their sales have been really lackluster as well. Though I don't think it's Steam's fault for the quality of games though. Take a look at Dawn of War 3 - a game that should have been a day-one purchase for me - but after seeing what they did with the game, I couldn't bring myself to even grab it when it got down to $10. There's just been a lot of really shitty games out there but I have found a few hidden gems lately (looking at you Elex).

I've adopted this approach for a long time and I think I've made only a single exception for Uplay for R6 Siege. I've passed on loads of games I wanted out of principle and I'll do the same here. Honestly it doesn't look that good in the first place and I'm an extremely big fallout fan.

Agreed , i no longer purchase any early access games unless a IRL friend i really trust recommends it. And i dont purchase any games day one unless all reviews are very positive, to many studios nowadays calling a beta build a final release.

I'm not really bothered to be honest, how many spying devices in Windows OS nowadays?..My problem is which version to buy ie retail case with game or digital download , leaning towards "Tricentennial Edition".

Just because everyone is spying on you doesnt mean you should give into it and just let them. There are programs that will eliminate windows calling home with your data. Same for steam.

Ive decided to stick with steam because it takes time to find the work arounds to stop all these programs from spying on you, and im not willing to put in that time for each new platform just for one game, hell you could spend more time locking down a new platform and protecting your data that playing the actual game if you only have one game on that platform.

I know most people nowadays literally do not care at all about there personal data and are very willing to let any and all data mine them at will, but im not one of those people. This is why even though i have locked down windows, i will only boot it to game, i spend 80% of my computer time running Linux.

I use my Linux PC as well and Windows for gaming only, again I do think some people get too paranoid with gaming spyware, don't forget your tin foil hat when you leave your house .
End of the day I respect it is your choice.

Getting back on topic I do feel Fallout 76 will be the best ever Fallout in the series, I guess only time will tell .

Unless you're someone who hates the Fallout series, I don't know how anyone could possibly come to that conclusion.

Is Elex good? Seemed interesting
Once you get passed the clunky controls (and I mean they are PS1 off-brand clunky), it's actually a really fun game. The exploration is very rewarding and the choices you make actually have a pretty big impact later down in the story. The combat is pretty difficult and you're going to find yourself running past quite a few enemies in the beginning of the game. Joining a faction is permanent, but it takes a while to earn their trust and you can do all the side-quests for certain factions before making up your mind.

Actually you really only have three options with ratings ie worst of the series, best or something in the middle. I'm now thinking somewhere in the middle( yes a guess for now), not sure how it will be without NPCs and PvP where you can kill anybody, sure you can become a murderer, however it should be interesting in the real online world how PvP does in Fallout 76 when it is officially released etc , not everybody likes PvP or wants it.

From the video I watched, it seems like you'll need to actively participate if you want to do PvP (IIRC, if someone shoots you it will do minimal damage until you start shooting back). Not sure how that ties into dropping nukes, though.

The non-PvP players are upset that there is PvP in the game, in a way I can understand since a lot just want to explore and do quests etc and not worry about being ganked or PvP killed, PvP zones or flagged for PvP would of been better for those that love PvP, if you don't like PvP well sort of out of luck. It'll be interesting to see how well or bad it becomes in Fallout 76.

I was going to pre-order but going to wait now, more excited about X4 Foundations then this game .

Seems to me like this game is effectively going to be "Early Access" and not finished for a good while.

So yesterdays beta was somewhat of a disappointment. First of all 4 hours is just too little to really understand anything. I get the fact that the test is for them, not for us, but I don't give a damn. Many people, including myself preordered and we deserve to play early as much as we want. I demand it.

Anyhow, here are some quick thoughts:

1)This is basically a Fallout 4 mod. Not an entire new game. I think it was very brazen of them to literally use the same exact assets and not change a damn thing about how things looked or felt. I ran across a church, and literally knew its layout exactly having been to countless identical churches countless time in FO4. Same thing with many other aspects of the game.
On one hand, it's good, because having played FO4 you will feel right at home, on the other hand it's lame to throw the same exact shit at us for $60 all over again.

2)The multiplayer aspect feel like a nagging nuisance, rather than a fun convenience. People keep yapping into their mic while I try to sort my inventory, skills or listen to a holotape. Why cant they all just.. Shut up?
People take away from the immersion of the game, they remove any sort of spookiness or surprise factor. Their pretense trivializes what Fallout is all about. The challenge is nullified in a team, and loot drops get taken before you can get to them. Sometimes you will conveniently stumble upon a dead player that was killed by something loot his corpse, and you are instantly rich! It's ridiculous! I found a corpse and looted stuff off of it that would have taken me hours to obtain through quests or exploration.

3)The new card perk system... I just don't like it. Not sure yet why exactly, but I can feel I don't.

4)VATS was a big part of the game.... There's no more VATS. Just aim and fire... Kinda lame.

5)Too much orange, yellow and red tones in the game.

6)I didn't do any PvP, but it's not like I wanted to anyway.

I am reluctant to cancel my pre-order. It's Fallout, after all. A lame, derivative, crippled, watered down Fallout, bogged down by the unnecessary multiplayer aspect, but a Fallout nevertheless.

ibex333, thanks for the feedback, I think I might wait until next year before buying this game, by then it will be cheaper and hopefully bug free plus a better game, I just purchased all the GOTY content for F4 so started a fresh F4 game from scratch.

It does suck no NPCs in F76, only 24 players or so on each server, lot of things I don't like in what they have changed, would of preferred a single player game like F4.

I still have X4 Foundations to pre-order as well.
