OMG, stubborn PCI slot!

Trying to replace a SB Audigy2 Value w/ a SB Audigy2 ZS... the Audigy2 Value has been in the slot for two weeks, and it's quite warm in my apartment. I am completely unable to pull this card from the slot... almost bloodied my finger trying to pry it out. Tried gently rocking it in the slot, brute force [but not too much, didn't want to tear the freaking slot out w/ it], and what have you, to no avail. Any tips for dealing with stubborn PCI slots? I was thinking it might be the heat [expands, etc], so am going to try it again after it cools off tonight.

Sorry to hear about your predicament...may I ask why you would upgrade from the Audigy2 Value to a ZS model?

Circumstances put me in possession of a ZS for less than the Value cost me. Planning on returning the Value to 'ol Best Buy.

Did you back out the screws in the neighboring slots? I know in one of my older cases, the screws from the neighboring slots would overlap on the slot cover above it, making it impossible to remove pci cards.

Aye. The "top" of the slot is completely clear, and unscrewed.

Are you lifting perpendicular to the motherboard and not at one end (effectivly rotating the card)?

Yes, pulling up from the mobo by both ends of the soundcard.

try getting the computer cooler somehow if you think heat has caused it?
as in, do it in front of the air conditioner

maybe its just a ploy from best buy to make sure you dont return it

Try giving it some force. I had a heck of time pulling out a NIC, when the card finally let go I nearly fell over.

Be careful where you place your hands, you dont want to rip off a capacitator or something if you slip. *thinks about time I ruined a good 9800 pro*

Lol, you wouldn't be saying this if it was your mobo. Easier said than done.

For the guy who said why upgrade from a Audigy 2 Value? Because the Value as no sound processor. It is the exact same version as the Audigy, but no sound processor. It's like an Audigy LS, same as an Audigy, no processor. Works fine if you have a P4-like CPU or AMD XP, 64 where bottlenecks of CPU usage will become almost negligible.

As for the card, I'd suggest you contact tech support for the mobo if everything you've tried doesn't cut it.

**USE AT YOUR OWN RISK:
You can try using an oily substance like Vaseline. Carefully use a very thin stick to insert the vaseline into the PCI slot, on both sides. Then lightly rock the daughter card, pulling outwards. Continue rocking and slowly pulling the card, holding it from as much of its edges as possible, as someone mentioned earlier, you don't want to pull off transistors or any small peices. The card will eventually come out after many-many minutes of rocking and pulling. When you're done, use a powerfully thin vaccuum tube to suck out any excess material within and around the PCI slot. After that's over, clean out whatever vaseline has gotten into the slot (and the daughter card).

Whoa Valkerie, WTF is an Audigy2 Value if there is no sound processor? How is the quality any better than onboard then?

Lol, anyways, thanks though, just saved me from ordering the Value off newegg, going with ZS now for 22$ more.
