So, my system is fubar and I commit myself to reformatting and reinstalling windows. I remove the drive and drive accross town to my apartment and hook it up to my other PC and back-up all the neccesary files, etc...
A couple of wierd things happen when I get back to my girlfriend's apartment...
1. booting with my win98 boot disk doesn't recognize the hard drive...
2. after hitting reset and leaving the room to get a soda, I return to find the PC actually booted into XP... wtf?
After using the opportunity to confirm everything is backed up and to make a few pointless threads on a forum, I boot into the XP pro CD, format C: and reinstall XP.
First things first, I get the RPC fix. Then I install a bunch of drivers and check my applications status (on d: partition...) I then go back to install all the Microsoft updates - particularly SP1.
Half way through the install, my PC reboots and now ntfs is fux0r3d again!
OK, so what are the possible reasons for this reboot and why is my ntfs.sys getting corrupted?
At this point I am thinking I either need a UPS or a brand new PSU... Any thoughts?
