i think the people who say that this card is ugly are just Nvidia haters who are trying to dig up excuses on hating the card. I mean, that is the most rediculous thing you can say, saying that a graphics card is ugly, what do you expect, the card is designed to perform well in graphics not trying to win a fashion show. next thing you know they're gunna be bitching that the CEO of nvidia is butt ugly and refuse to buy NVidia cards, get over it for crying out loud... And if you dont want to buy the card because it looks ugly then dont buy it, are you trying to make a fashion statement here or saying the card sucks? because if you think it sucks, then just say it sucks because its loud, or is slow, but dont say its ugly!! because nobody cares what it looks like unless you're gay or something and care about how the inside of your computer looks.

indeed. i don't buy computer hardware (sound cards, video cards, audio cards, hard drives) cause they look pretty. I could care less because my computer sits below my table and out of sight. The only time i look at my computer is when i walked into the room or turn it off/on (that's rare cause i run 24/7).

Nvidia Hater huh? An Nforce2 with a Geforce 3. Yep, I hate Nvidia alright.

Shaddap about the loss of a freakin PCI slot. How many of you actually need all 5 or 6 that you have? Nowadays, boards have all of the USB, 10/100 (or gigabit), firewire, and such integrated. At most, you need a soundcard, modem (if you're unfortunate enough to still be on a dialup connection) and a firewire card if you're heavily into photography and whatnot. Oh yeah, and a RAID card or whatnot. Still, it's not going to kill you to lose a slot.

why don't they get crazy and mount the big parts of the cooling device on the other side of the card. They should be able to use heat pipes and stuff and put a fan on top, or on the back.

The point is that these things should not "use" extra slots, unless there are actual extra cards. It's ludicrous to have to clear out your cards to make room for a fan.

No, the card has only one mounting bracket, but the fans completely obstruct the first PCI slot on most mainboards.

Exactly what I was thinking... I leave the PCI slot under the AGP free for airflow, no matter what the card (got into the habbit with a TNT and will not stop now). The card looks innovative, I will give it that but in black or gold would be just pure pimpin (then I would even consider putting one in my system - but I wouldn't really since the 9700/9800 is cheaper)

Unless your motherboard is upside down or something. You'll see mostly the backside since the fans will be facing down. If I had to choose one FX card i would pick this over
one with the reference cooling.

You "forget" to say that the noise comparison with the 9700 is in 2d mode, and how in 3d mode the 5800 will get louder whilst the 9700 does not. You quoted out of context.
