I WANT THE HOUR AND 10 MIN. THAT TED TOOK AWAY FROM ME BACK. or just what happened when he "went" back.
found this...seems our journal version of this tale is based on a lot of local legend, or maybe even ripped completely. The timing listed in the site also matches the story. Not to mention a website visitor by the name of "Ted Roberts" (the last page of our story ends his letter signed Ted) submitted directions to the secret location of a cave i think sounds all too similar.

so, who is up for the official anandtech cave trip to the devil's hole?! (I just hope it is one of the good holes, like the nose or ear, not the arse)

And Kami, I'm dissapointed in you, you go from such brilliant adventure literature like LOTR to this and still like it?
DUDE! Don't bring LOTR into this thread!

Where did I ever say this was up there with LOTR? :Q I said it was a fun/enjoyable read, that's all.

One major give away was the amount of details of his physical "injuries". If anyone was in such a traumatic situation, he/she would've forgot a lot of these details.

Ted is dead and so is his friend. Both of them were eaten by the evil, stinky smelling cave monster of death. But his lardass friend couldn't fit in the hole so I'm not sure what happened to him.

My ultra-short synopsis.

Dude finds some cave. Dude and dude's friend try to make the opening bigger so one can fit in. They make opening bigger and go in it several times. The last time the dude goes in he hears some scary noises, and when he tries to escape the cave by climbing his rope, whatever made the noises pulls the rope back down. Dude goes psycho and starts seeing things. The End.

Sounds like my life story.

It sounds like a mix between Blair Witch and an urban legend about siberian oil drillers that drilled into "hell". I got to page 5 and I'm giving up for the night. I'll read the rest tomorrow when it is light out and safe.

I think it's a well written story.

Of course it's fiction. That people here are upset by this confuses me. Did you expect it to be real?

Good writing, found it hard to breath when he decribed the first time into "the tomb", I think he found a bunch of cave pictures and just wrote a cool story around it.
More power to you Ted, if your story sucked we wouldn't be talking about it.

Hey now!!!! None of that!!!!!

Interesting spinoff on the good old Hodag joke. I've seen some of those pictures before in slide shows at various cave events and that is all I'm going to say. Other than they were either taking some serious breaks in between drill holes or their watch wasn't working quite right because Dewalt batteries do not last that long while drilling limestone (from personal experience).

Great story, galt. I enjoyed reading it, although I wish you had waited a few days with posting it, now I really have to hurry up if I want to meet the deadline for the report I am working on...

Reading that story made me realise just how claustrophobic I was. That picture showing "Ted" crawling through the tight part of the passage literally made me sick in my stomach and I had to take my eyes off the screen. I simply cannot understand what makes people like him tick. Or whoever it is in that picture. I think the story was written in good style, and while the bit about the foul stench and the rope being pulled back in is most likely pure fiction, I found myself fearing for the lives of Ted and B as I read on. I personally think this was a great piece of writing and the author could quite easily get it published if he worked on it a little (he definitely needs to correct the spelling). Reminded me of Stephen King's stories.

I once went caving and we had to crawl through a passage that was about twice as high and twice as wide as the passage in this story. We had plenty of space to move around compared to these guys, but it still freaked me out, and the whole time I was thinking that this huge piece of rock above me would squash me like a bug if it moved a few centimetres.

very well written, the pics were nice peripheral touches, nice ending...

It had me hooked on to it even though I had a feeling that this was the way it was gonna end ala victorian ghost stories.

Goddamn that was well written story, obviously fictional but so what, it was at least ten times more scary and entertaining than some fscking Blair Witch. That was waste of time.

I'm extremely (I repeat, extremely) claustrophobic myself, so there was parts on that story I almost couldn't read. Couple of times I noticed I had actually stopped breathing ...yeah, I really got into the story. With some improvements that story would make a damn good movie. And the ending was fscking great! I knew before I finished the last page how it's going to end and I loved it! I hate happy endings, it would have once again ruined a perfectly good story to know that the smell was because of some weird natural gas and that there wasn't anything bizarre going on afterall. Now it let's your imagination decide what happened. I loved it!

I read through the whole thing. It is a VERY good short story. Unfortunately, based on the dates of each page... it seems that the story just stops... maybe they never made it out...

Well I'm really glad so many of you read it. I read the first couple responses and figured nobody would appretiate it. I come back today and see ~90 responses and most of them positive =)

I really enjoyed this story. And even though its just a hoax (as many of you have pointed out), it just as enjoyable. I, to be honest, am GLAD that it's fiction. No way I'll be able to sleep knowing something like that is true =).

I found this on another website and after reading it, thought I'd share it with you guys. The original site on Angelfire was out of bandwidth, so one of the guys mirrorred (on the jrweb site). The people on the other forum where I found this dug up some website for some Caving Group that had pics of two guys that could possibly be Ted and B. And one of the pics from their website has a pic of Ted and B (we speculate) sitting in a cave, and captioned "Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure." Ted turned out to be a Fireman or something (this is what the people on the other forums site found out after doing some googleing. Ofcourse, they could be wrong).

Anyway, I'm glad you enjoyed this. I sure did. And if I find anything else like this... I'll be sure to post a link here.
