at 1.7 it never gets higher than high 30s under full load and at 2.6 ghz it never goes above 42c under full load....your ambient room temperature is really high or you have bad directional flow in your case cuz when i had a certain fan as an intake instead of an exhaust, it raised temps by almost 5c
oh i have a vantec tornado on the sp97 btw, with a fan controller thank god.
Let's see. If your house is a cool 20C, you overclock your CPU, then it must output about 90W of power at the high end. Assuming a good 0.25 C/W, your CPU temp should be around 42.5C. This is assuming your case temp does not go up as the PC heats up, and that you use default voltage. If you start upping the voltage, the temp difference grows by another factor (Vn/Vo)^2, which will build your CPU temp fast. So, I suppose it is possible for you to keep it cool if you have everything lined up correctly, but I would not expect an average user to be able to do that. I went through about 6 XP chips, and was not overly impressed by the mobiles.
BTW, why step down to 2.4 if you claim 2.6 at 42C? I'd be all over that, unless the voltage is like 2.2V...
mmm.... do you possibly think that people will get different results? Don't tell people that do get to 2.5Ghz that they are nuts, its luck of the draw with overclocking and nothing is set in stone.
Mine runs fine at 2.5Ghz with an ALX-800 and Panaflo L1A.
Mmm. I would run at 2.5GHz too if I did not run Prime95 all the time, which was the only point of my post. During summer, those temps climb high inside my house, especially on the second floor, where my office is. Come back and say your story when you DO run the CPU at 100%, and if your temp is below 60C, I will congratulate you. BTW, my case temp reaches 41C in the summer, so the guy claiming to run at 30C would obviously not be able to do that in my house.
