this evening a man came into my place of employment and said to me "is there someone who can help me here" to which i replyed "i can"
then he looked me up and down and said "no i want someone else to help me" so i pointed him in the direction of my friend heather to which he said the same thing, but my boss was there and she helped him: all he wanted to know was if we had a particular product.

i then go into the asile and begin to talk with heather and my boss and he comes up to us and says to me "excuse me girl i am ready to check out" (this is my pet peeve cuz there is a bell on the counter but that is besides the point, plus i wasnt supposed to be on cash). so then he yells at me for being lazy for standing around and talking. then he yells at me cuz a small notebook we have is one dollar and not two for a dollar. then he yells at me because the change i gave him was dirty and crumpled. then he yells at me for not giving him his change in his hand. then he yells at me because i walked away from the cash without saying goodbye to him. then he yells at me for rolling my eyes, (meanwhile i didnt)

why does this guy hate me? i have never met him before.

i shoulda yelled at him. but im a baby.

my boss was laughing so hard she was crying

*kat. <-- thought she was a loveable person until now.

He was projecting his own inadequacies onto you becuase he cannot rationally deal with them himself.

Do worry about it. It's his problem.

Wow I get to deal with disgruntled people nearly everyday! After a while it gets fun to laugh at them I think, just enjoy the humor of the situation and you'll be okay.

I know how you feel. When I worked in retail many moons ago, I once had a african american man call me a racist in front of the entire store simply because he was impatient and didn't want to wait in line. The irony of the situation was I was waiting on a elderly black lady right before he walked up to the counter. Somethings just don't make sense. Anyhow, kinda off the subject but although your anger my be flaring, sometimes it's best not to say anything at all. That's what I did and my boss thanked me for it. Good luck in the future. Regards.

Oh my darling,

That is the wonderful thing about being in your 30's.

I used to be in your shoes, and now I deal with jackasses like that quite efficiently.

Hold your head up and remember that HE is the one with the problem.

Be the best that you can be and pay no mind to the malcontents.

One day, you will be laughing at them!

That is pretty low. Guy has nothing better to do than walk into a dollar store and start yelling at clerks. Dude needs to get a life.

That's why you need to make a sign and keep it under your counter/desk whatever for these special occasions -

Right answers: $5.00
Wrong answers: $2.00
Dumb looks: Free

Besides that, some people just have a permanent case of "cobb-up-the-assitis"

I don't believe all this "hold your head high" crap. I still say give him a whack to the gonads.

Ok, well I will admit that this is precisely why I chose to work as a veterinary technician and then later with handicapped children... animals and kids make MUCH better clients and customers than Joe Public.

And now that I am a spoiled housewife most of my work is volunteer work, so whenever anyone even THINKS about giving me a hard time I'm like "Hah! Kiss my culito!"

Eakers, I have been a cashier and a bank teller in my day.... I would rather shovel crap in a dog kennel or wipe the drool from a severly disabled child ANY DAY.

You might want to do like I did and look for more rewarding work like I did... the pay is about the same. Even if you work at a day care, the pay is the same and you get kids who think you are the Best!!!!

Just my .02.

Isla, the phrase "Kiss my fanny" over here (aussie land) would denote them kissing a private region of sorts Not sure if that would be the best thing to say

<< why does this guy hate me? i have never met him before. >>

Nobody's met this guy before! People like this live all by their lonesome selves and manage to crawl out of their caves every so often.

There's only one way to deal with people like this: piss them off as much as you can. Give them the change on the counter...give them as much smaller-coin change as possible...give them a really really really long thank-you for shopping here departing message...put their shopping items in a really large bag - much larger than necessary.

They soon learn that if they don't want to be bothered, they'll bother others less.

vi_edit, you forgot "Answers which require thought"

eakers, are you new to the retail industry? Oh the stories I could tell. If you're new, get used to it, there's going to be a customer (maybe not as bad) like that every day. Pretty soon, you'll learn to laugh at it and maybe even thrive on these types of customers.

I always showed the same attitude that they showed me and if they came down on me for any reason, I just walked away.

why does this guy hate me? i have never met him before.
He probably suffers from some form of mental illness.

i shoulda yelled at him. but im a baby.
Actually you were probably better off not yelling back. If he seemed very theatening your boss should have asked him to leave/called the cops on him though.

my boss was laughing so hard she was crying
But at least you weren't crying, right? Before you said you cried about everything, so this is a good step for you
