This new offer has just been posted on airmileoffers.com Absolutely hot!

Sign up the American Express Gold Delta SkyMiles Card, and you earn 10,000 bonus miles after first purchase.

_AND_ you will earn additional 15,000 BONUS miles if you spend $5000 in 5 months.

That's 25,000 bonus miles for just $85 annual fee!! 25,000 miles get you one Coach/ Economy Class Roundtrip Ticket Within or between the continental US, Alaska and Canada. That's almost like buying a roundtrip delta award ticket for just $85!!

This deal is on fire! I am going to get my parents, brothers and all friends to sign up. $85 for a roundtrip ticket, can't pass that up!!

With the Amex Gold Delta Skymiles card, you earn 1 mile per dollar spent. So, after you spend that $5000, along with the 25,000 bonus miles. you will already have 30,000 miles.

30,000 miles can get you a ticket between the continental US, Alaska, Canada AND Bermuda, the Caribbean, Hawaii or Mexico. Guess how much is a roundtrip ticket from New York to Hawaii?? $650!!
Your cost $85!!!

Hot or not?!

Update:
Since the PLATINUM delta skymiles card offers BVG(best value guarantee), you can UPGRADE to a platinum card by paying the difference in annual fee. So, after 5 months, you get you 25,000 bonus miles, you can call american express, and ask for an upgrade to platinum, pay the difference of $50, you get BVG + 5000 delta base miles.

Also, you need to spend $5000 in 5 months to earn the additional 15,000 bonus miles. If that's too hard for you, you can use that credit card and buy US Savings Bond, they will treat the transaction as purchase, and you can earn miles.

I'm I missing something, or wouldn't you include the $5000.00 you spend on the credit card in addition to the $85?

Sounds more like: One round trip ticket = $5085.00

.........Just wondering

Definitely a hot deal. The amex blue no fee reward card may be a better deal for those of us who rack up hundreds of thousands of miles as is. I've never thought about buying savings bonds with a credit card. Buy a couple hundred grand of short maturity bonds and get a free Staples laptop. What a country!

Reminds me of stories about people who got Amexes just to charge their heart surgery on them. $50,000 of hospital bills -> $250.

There is alotta fine print to watch out for i got hoaxed that way too...I am sitting on 20K in 8 months of having the card...and my average bill is 1500 which if you work the math out means i surpassed the 5k mark after 4 months...but didn't get my bonus 10k...I did however get my 15k so start. In conclusion just read the fine print before you sign up.

Just as a reminder, most of the major FF programs are changing their tier award levels as of 6/1/2003. For on Delta and American, a standard FF RT ticket within the continential US will go from 25K miles to 30K miles. For United, Continental, and some others it wil go from 25k to 35K miles.:disgust:

Oh really!!! That is really messed up, they are already screwing us in service in every way humanly possible, and now this.

The day is not far when they will begin charging for using the lavatories or take them completely out for flights less than 2 hrs, just like they did with so called "meals", if you can call it that.

This is news to me. Could you please tell me where you hear of this news?

If this is true, the best way is to book a ticket before the change. with these award ticket, as long as the destination and departure airport doesn't change you can change the date of flight free of charge.

Regardless, HOTT deal on DL even though they have no reward flights for me next week!
Stupid full fare economy (what a joke, eh?)

Not true, Some airlines such as American now charge $75 or $100 to change the date or to even fly on a later flight on standby.

Well you can start by checking right on the home page of Delta Skymiles for starters and the head on over to your favoie FF deal sites.

BTW - I fly 2 - 3 times per week and know all the "tricks" of the various FF programs. I have never heard of any FF program that will allow you to change the date of your flight without incurring a fee as you suggested. Even if the departure and destination are the same they WILL charge you a fee. Even back in the "liberal" days of the American AAdvantage program this was not allowed without a $50+ fee. Today, FF programs are so restrictive they charge you if you change your reservation in any way. For Delta this charge is $75 per change. Also, don't forget the airlines will charge you sales tax as is REQUIRED by Federal LAw to pay taxes on all FF tickets. While minimal compared to the full cost of a ticket, it always seems to catch "neewbies" off guard when they find out they need to fork over $30 on average for each FF ticket. For International flights, you must also pay all the airport duties and fees for your FF tickets.

As a suggestion, if you are planning on using FF points/miles for an upcoming trip that is not definite, simply request a FF voucher instead of actually applying your miles to a specific itinerary. Most FF programs will issue a certificate if you ask, but they will not volunteer one unles you ask. Most progams like Delta's SkyMiles prefer that you allocate your FF when you make the reservation which is not required. Depending on the carrier, you have up to 30 days to fund your reservation. With a voucher you can make your reservation with ANY qualified travel of the airline including most travel agents. Vouvhers are good for one year from the date of issue so getting vouchers is also a good way to "lock in" a reward level before the point requirement for that level changes.

It's been at least 4 months since I booked a FF flight; however, on Continental I've never been charged fees for:
[*] Airfare taxes/pfc's/other fee's (except the new $2.50 per segment "sept. 11" security fee [up to $10 max per booking])
[*] Changes to itinerary (even if you change the DATE OF TRAVEL, DEPARTURE and/or DESTINATION airport(s), etc.) so long as the same class of REWARD TRAVEL SEATS are still available on your new flights. If not available, the only additional "cost" is the additional FF miles needed to book an UNRESTRICTED FF flight (which is double the # of FF miles).

Every FF flight I booked last year on Continental (which was probably 10 direct round trip flights throughout the year) cost me a total of $5 per booking (1 flight segment each way @ $2.50 security fee per segment).

NOTE 1: I too have NOT heard that Continental is raising the price of standard FF reward travel to 30K - 35K miles; however, I wouldn't be surprised if that happened.

NOTE 2: Continental and a few other airlines whom were originally going to impose the $75 - $100 "same day standby" charge starting Jan 1, 2003 reversed course before the policy even went into effect. Too many of their frequent flyers vehemently complained, so they left the old policy in place (i.e. free stand-by on earlier flights same day of travel). US Scareways charges such a fee and thus, they're in bankrupcy where they belong (those cheap pr*cks).

I've changed the dates on at least 4 FF tickets on american airlines and I have never been charged any fee, only restriction I had is that you had to keep the same end-points, you could even change the route, not sure if this is still the same

Getreal,
I flew 70K on UA last year and I was NEVER charged a fee on reward flights.
Flew BA on the SST...no charge on date changes.
US...no charge on date changes on award tickets.

As for the rest....I beleive AA may be charging after the first of the year.

The rule is the same for Delta. I just checked with them last week. No charge as long as you keep the end points the same.

For people who are not yet a delta skymiles member, you can enroll through the following special offer and earn 3000 bonus miles.

"your 1,000-mile enrollment bonus will be automatically deposited into your account. And as an added bonus, when you activate your SkyMiles membership by flying with Delta or by earning miles with any SkyMiles partner, we'll give you an additional 2,000 miles. "

3000 bonus miles for delta skymiles program enrollment.

I was just following this post and as a poor college student (UCIrvine represent) was wondering if you can fly anywhere with the original 10,000 bonus miles. That seems to me to be a whole lot of miles and for 85$ i would be down to go just about as far as that gets me. Something tells me this isn't possible but before i gave it up i wanted to see if it was possible to get anything out of this deal for just 85$ without being interested in investing the 5 G's.
thanks,
swakel.
