I've been fascinated by OTFE for some time, but have yet to take the plunge. Unfortunately, there are too many products on the market, and not enough current info for me to sort out which is legit or just a glorified snake oil salesman.
Sarah Dean's OTFE comparison page is an excellent resource, but hasn't been updated since November, so a number of products have hit the market but aren't yet evaluated. I'm mainly concerned with the commercial sucessor(s) to E4M and ScramDisk - DriveCrypt and DriveCrypt Plus Pack.
DriveCrypt appears to be a slight modernized version of ScramDisk, but DCPP covers every aspect of the HD, including the MBR. Thus, you can't even see the HD without first entering your (hopefully cryptographically strong) passphrase. Of course, the downside is that the authors have been making some very strong claims on alt.security.scramdisk, but with a "just trust me" kind of attitude. And of course, being a commercial product, peer review of the source code is verboten.
Is there any good/objective/largescale review of various OTFE packages out there? Does anyone here have experience with DC/DCPP?
