Oh man guys. a Super K-Mart is closing in my area! That really sucks. They are always packed with customers, I wonder why they are closing. I would have thought that they were doing good. Well maybe now i can get an xbox for less than retail.

Man i just got back from Super-Kmart, and there was NOTHING. There was no type of sale going on. Maybe it doesn't start just yet. But i did notice that they will be closing at 12am from now on. They were a 24hr store and now they are not.

Often in my area, these types of sales aren't much special. THey start at like 10%, people come and buy stuff, then they go lower, people come and buy stuff...so that the more the price is reduced, the more crappy the inventory is. By time it gets to like 50, there's nothing but crap left. I'll probably check it out anyway though, there're two closing in my area

I got two copies of Windows XP Home Upgrade for $59 each during the first round of K Mart closings.
These liquidation sales are really disgusting but I love saving money. I know exactly what I want when I walk in the door and don't spend ANY time searching through every blessed pile of accumulated garbage for crap I don't need or want. The people going to these things act like vultures eating the dead or dying...I know...since I was there, I must be one too.

Since K-mart is not liquidating all of their stores, I suspect some of the better merchandise was transferred out to other stores - or, back to their distribution warehouse. Am I right in this assumption, or would they just prefer to sell what's in the store?

LAME.... Not worth it for anyone....

This weekend the store near me plastered signs all over town on telephone poles, sides of the road, etc touting 50% off for the store closing... I was picking up a bike for my daughters birthday (turned 3..) anyway so I figured I would check it out....

Everything in the store was 10% off ..... I bought the same model bike they had at Kmart for $59 before 10% off for $34 at the Walmart down the street and it wasn't even on sale...

Make sure you do some comparison shopping...
My local Ames went out of business a few months ago... They had a futon for sale for $299.00. I had just purchased it there 2-3 months earlier for my kids for only $179 (I think maybe 169 or 189). They had TONS of those futons in stock. When they hit 20% off, idiots were buying them like crazy. The exact same futon was at Kmart for $199, and they were happily "saving" $60 by getting it for $240. I had noticed quite a few of those things seemed to have gone up considerably in price before the sale. For the first month or so (the liquidators really dragged out the sale), very little, except clothing, ever made it to what would have been a normal price. Nonetheless, they sold a ton of stuff.

Yup ... in my neighborhood the "Up to 50% off" signs were everywhere as of last weekend. When I went *in* to the store, the signs there said "10% to 30% off", but damned if everything wasn't marked 10% off, if it was marked at a discount at all. Not one blessed 30% off sign on any shelf that I could find ... and certainly nothing at the 50% off mark.

So basically, it was a total crock.

Not sure when the prices will drop further, but I'm swinging by the Westminster, CA store later today ... because I have something I want to return.

I realize that the store closings are either in mid-fervor or are drawing to a close, but I thought I should mention that KMarts that are doing well will be shipping excess merchandise to failing stores. My KMart was supposed to ship three or four pallets of baby clothes, sparkling juices, and who knows what else. I suspect that many of the stores' "Top 500" items and surplus Christmas/New Year's/Valentine's stock will go, so deals are there to be found.

...And Kmart isn't so bad. For being the smallest SuperK in the country, my store pays me rather well.
