So, i've got a problem with an onboard network controler. basically, after the driver is installed and the network cable is plugged in it says "network cable is unplugged"...i've tried reinstalling and updating the driver to no avail. any ideas?
BTW: i went to the compaq site and download drivers using the computers product key, so this "network driver" should work. However, what strikes as odd is the fact that the driver name says "NIC", however this is onboard.....One more thing, XP recognizes the network controller and installs the same driver automatically.
NIC is a general term used for Network Interface Card, and they use it for the onboard versions as well, sounds like the onboard NIC is dead, try installing a PCI NIC and see if it works....
I've used both a wireless PCI card and a usb-NIC adapter, both worked perfectly. I was not aware that some onboard drivers were labeled as NIC drivers, though. don't really feel like buying a PCI card for the person....plus she says that the port worked fine before. Can't think of anything else? and once again, i am positive that the network side is working fine. thanks!
you mean you have used a wireless and usb based in this machine and they worked? well you just answered your own question! the onboard has gone bad. its not that hard to figure out tell her to spend a few bucks, (15-20) and put in a pci nic.....
