I´m a little disapointed with the new games for the PC and I feel that the developers always release games for PC that are Strategic or RPG or something like that.

I mean I like to see nintendo Metroid Prime or XBox Spliter Cell. etc in the PC format, so I need to buy a Videogame Console yes or not, if yes wich One?.

With the exception of a couple of FPS's, I've all but abandoned PC gaming in favor of the Xbox and Xbox Live.

The explanation is simple, really... The games I have for my Xbox are just more fun than what's out there on the PC.

I've heard rumours of Splinter Cell on PC... although they were rumours, and there was talk about a degraded experience if you didn't have a GeForce FX.

It IS true that the types of games available for PC and consoles are considerably different, although FPS is making it's way to console more and more lately. I personally own a PC and an XBox, and I play them both about equally. I enjoy platformers and fighting games which are usually never released on PC, which is where the XBox comes in. With my PC, I play FPSs and racing games, for the most part.

It depends on what type of games you enjoy, and whether you enjoy those games more from the comfort of your couch, or the chair at your computer desk, or atleast that's what I find anyhow.

Just my opinion...

I've always been a die hard pc-gamer, but I'm starting to sway towards consoles (xbox specifically). Like Wingznut said, the quality just isn't there anymore. Plus, it seems like nothing is releases for the pc anymore. I'd rather play games on a pc, but its becoming harder and harder to do.

Very well said, Gaunt.

I absolutely love gaming from my couch, on my 32" tv, all in full 5.1 surround sound. The positional audio on an Xbox really trounces anything on a PC. It makes the gaming just that much more immersive.

Forgot to mention something about which console to buy...

Basically this is a long and complicated decision, and hinges mostly on what types of games you want to play, and where you see the console market going in the next year or 2.

If you want managed and consistent online play, and you have broadband, XBox Live is worth looking into. The XBox itself is a fair contender (In my opinion, possibly slightly biased) in the hardware area, and has a decent set of games out, and more coming in the future. The In-Game Dolby 5.1 is VERY nice, if you have the sound system to support it.

If you want a ton of games (both old and new) and some online play (can't speak of any experience with it myself), look towards PS2.

If you want more party oriented, platform type titles, Nintendo is probably the way to go. I've been looking more and more at the GameCube for these reasons, but find it hard to justify a second console. Nintendo is also cheaper, has been around for a very long time, and usually releases nothing but quality games (even if some ARE a bit child oriented).

Nobody can make this decision for you. You need to figure out what you want, and which console will offer that.

Well I curently R playing games like SOF2, GTA3, F12002, from my couch, and in my 29" TV with 5.1 Suround sound with my actual PC rig, but I feel like there´s something missing.

maybe the Fight games, maybe the simplicity of the conecctions of the console, I really don't know, my last console was a PS, and I have a lot of fun with my friends playing fight games, but lately my friends are all getting married, so I don´t know if a console will be a justified purchase.

But like I told U before I just see all tha gorgeous new games for the consoles and I can´t avoid having a little of envy.

They each have their strengths and weaknesses.

The PC can have the best graphics and sound can be very immersive, but the cost of keeping up to date is much higher.
The PC is still the best for RPG's and FPS games though, IMHO.

The consoles are cheaper, have more diverse titles, online broadband support, and they are getting better graphics all the time. I still find that the controllers are not up to what I would like (ie. mouse and Kb.. none for Xbox). The software is generally more expensive though and I hate split screens (online is good though).

I have pretty much every main console out, and I have a few PC's. If all I did was game, then I would just get a console probably, but I use my PC for much more. It really depends on what is more important to you, but until one or the other has everything I want, I'll have to suffer with a bit of each.

I've stuck to PC gaming for the most part over the past 10 years... Just recently, I switched over to an XBOX on an 57" HDTV, DD/DTS 5.1 setup, and let me tell you it is going to be tuff to drag myself back to the PC. The graphics, sound and overall immersion have left my jaw on the floor. Splinter Cell on this setup is truly a sight to behold.

I can see how a console on a home theater setup like that would kick ass... but how many people have setups like that or even close to that?

All I really care about is gameplay. I don't care if it's a PC, console, PDA, or cell phone as long as I'm having fun.

There's one thing that really baffles me. I see a video card for like $200 and I don't think it's that bad of a deal and a decent upgrade. But I can get an Xbox or PS2 with a huge library of games for $199 and I keep waiting for them to drop in price. Tony Hawk 4, Soul Caliber 2, Metroid Prime, Final Fantasy X, Final Fantasy X-2, Splinter Cell, Metal Gear Solid 2, Halo, Super Mario Sunshine, Virtua Fighter 4, the new Zelda, Grand Theft Auto Vice City, The Two Towers, Shenmue II, Steel Batallion, Dead or Alive 3, etc. There's a ton of great stuff out there for the consoles and only the consoles. At $199 for an Xbox or PS2 and a meager $150 for a Gamecube, they're a steal.

That being said, you know I'm going to be dropping some serious cash for a new video card when Doom 3 comes out.

Oh, and I'd get a Gamecube. It's a $150 and by the time you get tired of Tony Hawk 4, Metroid Prime, Mario Sunshine, Soul Caliber 2, Resident Evil, the upcoming Two Towers and all the other cool games, the other 2 systems will probably have dropped $50 each so you can pick those up for less if you feel the need.

I agree...when compared with the price of a console, it seems outrageous that someone would consider spending $200-300 on a video card, which somehow seems cheap if you don't think in terms of buying a PS2 or xbox with games.

I used to be a console gamer but I've given it up lately...
I don't play games enough to warrant the expense of a console+games so I just use my PC.

It's strange quite how cheap Xboxes are though. I wonder how much microsoft loses on each one.

Eventually quite a few console games come to PC, Halo, GTA 3, Splinter Cell (possibly), but to get them on consoles you need to
a) buy both consoles (so you end up having 2 or 3 consoles)
b) spend more on the games.

PC's may be more expensive, but I also think they are more versatile and have better controls for games. Since eventually quite a few console games come to PC, and the PC has some PC only games, it's a good gaming platform. I doubt you'll see GTA: Vice City on Xbox, or Halo 2 on PS2.

Keep in mind however, that when Halo finally makes it to PC, Halo 2 will be just around the corner for the XBox. My biggest reason for liking theconsoles over the PC is that PC manufacturers have a tendency to release buggy games whereas (partly due to the fact theat there are so many different hardware set ups), on consoles, this quite simply does not happen. Who wants to be messing with drivers and patches on a PC, when you could just pop the game in the console and know that everything will run smooth as butter?

If you want to play FPS and RTS games, buy a PC. If you want to play anything else than those two genres, buy a console. Its really that simple. Console games ported to PC are usually crap. PC games ported to the console, usually crap.

If you want a headache free experience, get a console. If you arent bothered by downloading patches, updates, drivers, stuff like that, then a PC should be fine.

I wouldnt say that one has better gfx or sound than the other at all, even with the fastest PC hardware.

199$ ? Any 70$ card on the market will play current games.

And with TV-Out and other features, the utility extends beyond gaming.

An Xbox or PS2 may only be around $200, but then there's controllers to buy, memory cards, remotes, etc, which all add up to be quite a bit. When a controller and memory cards cost $30 a piece, you're looking at around $100 for a multiplayer setup, or even more. Sure, it's still a good deal for $300 overall, but there's not much utility to consoles while PC's are far more versatile.

Why do many of the PC guys think that it's an "either/or" situation? Sure, PC's are much more versatile than consoles. If I had to choose one over the other, it'd be a no-brainer.

Why not have both? If it's for monitary reasons, then that makes sense... But personally, I'd rather have an older soundcard/videocard/memory AND an Xbox.

There's nothing wrong with having both, is there???
