Gigabyte GA-K8NXP-SLI, excelstor hd, D-Link wireless pci card, couldn't get on the net, it pinged, but dlink support said IE was faulty, not the card. so decided to format HD, and re-install windows:
Put in Windows XP Pro to format HD, went to bios, first boot changed to CD, it went back to windows, never booted to cd (4x), So, went to bios and @CMOS, went to HD (it's SATA) and went to "none" so it's not seen in bios. Then it booted to CD. Windows did it's thing, when it re-booted, I went to BIOS, and made first boot HD (after I had BIOS see it), and got this "Warning: Windows could not start because of computer disk hardware config prob...Could not read from selected boot disk ... etc"...This went on for about 4 hours ( I guess I was hoping for something). Took out the hd and hooked it up to MY puter, and it's fine, in fact it has the initial files for starting windows, boot. ini etc.
I have absolutely NO IDEA where to go from here.

After your reinstall, did you install the Motherboard Chipset Drivers ? ? ? If not do so.
Next check that the HDD in BIOS is set properly to SATA if you have a Sata drive.
Did XP ask for the Sata Drivers upon installation ? ? If it is pre SP2 it may have requested them.
If so, did you load them ? ? Also you said you couldn't get on the Net but you can ping ? ?
Ping to where ? ? That sounds more like a wireless network configuration issue, such as wrong
password or wireless network name or not using the correct type of encryption .. Or maybe a
the DNS and get IP are not set to Automatic in the Network connection on the computer.

Can't reinstall i get the error message. I formatted this HD about a month ago, and had the same problem, but for some reason it went thru. did nothing to chipset drivers
There is no setting in bios so "set" a SATA drive
It asked if I wanted to press "F6" to install sata drivers, which i pressed, but it never asked for the floppy, besides there is only one sata drive
SP2 is allready on the disk,
Was on the phone with d-link support, and he had me ping google.com, and 4 packets went out, 4 came back, and nothing was lost, so the wireless card works. This computer was on the net for a few months.
very strange

I take it the computer still boots up ? ? Then try the suggestions I made earlier about checking HOW your wireless network settings are configured.
On the wireless network Icon in the system tray, Right click, Status, Properties, Internet Protocol, Properties ... Be sure "Obtain an IP" and "Obtain DNS" are both set to Automatic.

I can't boot, I formatted the HD, and when it tries to install windows to finish, i get the "waring" message I posted earlier. I have a HD with nothing on it cept for the windows initial files needed to install windows.

See if you can download a vendor setup disc for your HDD. It's possible there's something with the system you are trying to put it in that's encountering an issue. Boot from the vendor disc, do the setup and see if it works.

I've run into this a few times with a HDD that somehow got corrupted partition information.
Even linux wouldn't make a proper partition or let me use the drive.
The way to cure it is download something like http://www.dban.org/
Use the overwrite one time option and let it erase the first couple hundred sectors on the disk, no need to do the whole thing.
Then partition and format as usual.

When you use the format command it really erases nothing on the drive so old information is actually still there, it just clears the location of where the files were.
Erasing the sectors with dban cleans up any old partition information for sure.

Reset BIOS using the CMOS battery to make sure all the settings are factory default and see if it'll see your hard drive.

What mode is your SATA drive in? Perhaps it is set to the wrong setting and needs to be set as "PATA" in the BIOS possibly?
