Truly, this time is "different"... happy to see some bright minds can think on their own.

Too bad she didn't learn some public speaking skills.
I grew up in Minneapolis, MN.
Our HS valedictorian got pregnant 3 months before graduation and dropped out.
My all time favorite quote from our assistant Principal was, "We're not here to educate you, we're here to keep you off the streets."
Our society was predominantly Scandinavian which held as a basic tenet, Children should be seen but, not heard.
People wondered why Minnesota had the highest rate of volunteers for Vietnam.
My generation was ready to kill something, anybody, just get us the hell out of here.

then according to him you need to get out of there and kill something.I am Norwegian. I grew up in Minneapolis. I do not see things the way you see things.
I bet she's headed to one of them elitist colleges in the fall.
She wasted everyones time with a stupid speech.
She's a typical American whiner. It's all public education's fault she crammed and didn't learn anything. Couldn't possibly have to do with the fact that she chose not learn anything and just cram to get a good grade and forget. You can do that in public or private school, if that's what you choose to do. Or you could choose to take the time to learn things. School is not about forcing you to learn, it's about giving you the opportunity to learn. She had that opportunity and blew it, now she wants to blame the people who gave her the opportunity.
On the flip side, she did learn how to game the system, which is really the best thing for a whiner like her to learn in life.
Right, she obviously failed to learn. That is why she is valedictorian of her class numbnutz.
She is ranting about how the school achieves the goal, not the results. Critical thinking in our public school system is out.
Didn't you listen to the speech? She worked to get good grades (took notes, didextra credit, etc) she looked at it like a job and didn't remember after the test was over. She claimed she didn't learn anything more than how to study for a test and do assignments.
That was her point about the school system. They had her achieve it through memorization for the next test. Not critically thinking about what she was doing. She was making a point about how they achieved the results.

She played the system and got good grades by cramming at the expense of retaining the knowledge. That was her choice. She could have sat in same class, listened to same instructor, and chose to learn and understand. For her to blame public education is simply shifting the blame.Right, she obviously failed to learn. That is why she is valedictorian of her class numbnutz.
No one stopped her from exercising some critical thinking and learning, except herself. You can take the horse to water, but you can't make it drink. She is ranting about how the school achieves the goal, not the results. Critical thinking in our public school system is out.
She chose to not learn, except from memorization. The school doesn't\ can't make her think. They have no way of knowing who's learning and who isn't, only the results from tests.
She made a choice and it was a bad one.
