I heard it on my drive to work today, confirmed on the 6 o'clock news. Chrysler has outsourced another 200 tech jobs to India. Tata motors is taking over some of their engineering work, expect the wheel to be redesigned as a square, then a cost reduction removing one side. Screw them, I had already jumped camp after 5 transmissions in 4 vehicles, no way in hell I'll ever even rent one again.

No way in hell. When I'm working in the States, I often have to drive dodge/Chryslers as rentals and they are about the worse cars I ever have to drive. I'd MUCH prefer to be driving a Hyundai or even Kia as a rental than a Dodge. Whenever I happen to luck up and get a Subaru, VW, or even Chevy...I'm ecstatic that it's not another Dodge.

yeah....has there even been a reason to buy Dodge in the last five years? I mean, come on....with the possible exception of the Viper, Dodge has a long way to go before I'd think about buying one.

I'm quite the mopar fan, but ever since the cloud cars, their vehicles have been trash. The minivan, their trucks, and some Jeeps are exceptions, but their cars are garbage.

Thats odd. I always get my cars from Dollar since they carry Chrysler/Dodge. I hate driving any other rentals.

You never had to write technical documents or instructions?

I love my Dakota, even though its has the signs of age (it is, after all, a '97, 11 years old!), but definitely isn't showing signs of death anytime soon.

And the lifetime power train warranty definitely should ease some fears with the new models.
I don't deal with their cars and never had a reason to, but like I said, the Gen3 Dakota's are good machines.
My family's 96 Plymouth Grand Voyager is starting to go down the crapper, but I don't know if that really means all that much, especially in comparison to today's vehicles. But I think there is good reason to start looking at Chrysler at this point ('08 models and on), if they could get their designs in order and give some spark... something Chrysler in whole has been lacking for some time now. And Jeep is still a personal favorite, but that might also be because Jeep is a home-town hero of sorts in Toledo, OH, making quite a few of the famous models in that factory.

My '94 Dakota is a great truck too and even at 150,000 miles, it still runs great.
Chrysler can't live on their trucks alone... they need to be competitive with cars again. The Sebring/Avenger are at the bottom of their class. The Caliber is not a good replacement for the Neon. The Magnum/300M are non-competitive. If I were looking for a Chrysler car, I'd look for an Intrepid with the 3.5 liter, or a k-car with the 2.2 or 2.5 (maybe a late model Neon if I found the right one).

fully agreed. They need more innovation and spark in their cars. Extremely excited about the Challenger, really want one myself sometime down the road.

Yeah my Dakota is around 106k right now, and has kept strong. Harsh winters with lots of salt hasn't helped the underbody though, I think rust might be blamed for ruining my brakes because of a brake fluid leak that corroded 6 month old new brakes! Bad luck, because it looks like the brake line itself (or something related) is starting to age and it's been recommended that we replace that sometime soon. Boo.

I'm driving am 08' Grand Caravan rental right now, and I freaking hate it.

10K miles & it rattles like an old taxi, it has a huge lag when shifting, and I've been getting 19 mpg.

What a massive piece of crap.

That's a good question. I guess if you figure SS, retirement, medical and so forth it could add up.

Salary would be close to 100k each, with benefits 140-180 I'd guess, which boils down to the Detroit area loosing approx $30 million a year just in those salaries. (very rough guess, but the benefits feed the doctors/dentists etc)

Great idea! If everyone boycotts them then you can ensure that 1000's more jobs will *be kept in the US!

*the word 'not' goes here.

And I couldn't possibly care less.

Here's a clue for American auto manufacturers, if you want people to actually buy your cars, make them reliable, even exciting, something that people actually want, and offer it for a decent price. I don't base my car buying choices on who gets to build it or in what country...never have, never will.
