LCD prices need to come WAAAAAY down before I'll even think about it. like a 30" cinema display for <$1000 or a IBM t221 for <$1500

edit and the IBM would be REAL 3840x2400

What's the refresh rate on that puppy?

The thing about LCDs that really makes me want one is just how crisp and vibrant they tend to be. Also, the concept of the viewing area being on something relatively flat makes it all the more surreal. With a CRT, if I wish to run it at a high resolution, I usually have to sacrafice 20 or 30 Hz and deal with an eye strain.

My NEC 22" FP2141 does 2048 x 1536 @ 85hz, and will do higher, but most vid cards won't go over 85hz @ that res. 1600 x 1200 works great @ 100hz.

This LCD is nice for sure, but it still can't match a high end AG CRT in anything but possibly text.

As someone else said...LCD's are nice, but not for everyone.

is there even a vid card capable of that

Workstation cards. Bu why do 3840x2400 on four monnitors when you can do it on one?

9..2 mega pixels on one screen! How can you see anything?

that's sick :Q

It's awesome, but not really designed for the consumer market. With that high a pixel count it's extremely limited in refresh rate.

48hz IIRC.

Not everyone has space for a hulking 22" AG monitor on their desk either. For the vast majority of people LCDs are more than good enough (in color reproduction, viewing angle, etc).

i would MAKE room for 2x 22 in AG CRTs there isnt much that looks better, and thoes that do cost about 2000$ and they are CRTs as well

speaking of which i may have to order one soon as one of my current dual 19s is on the way out

I would live with the slightly worse color reproduction of LCDs to save about 4 square feet of desk space

Probably why I said LCD's aren't for everyone. The reverse would also be true. The fact is, it's no deeper than the 19" CRT it replaced, and it only weighs ~65lbs. I don't move it around, and when I do, it's not that heavy.

See, that's the thing that I find interesting. People are willing to spend much more, for something that is "good enough", just because it takes up less space?

I have plenty of space. Oh, and gaming @ 2048 x 1536 is fun too.

Wow. 1000:1 contrast ratio, typical brightness of 500 nits. And I thought my 2005FPW was bright. :Q

the only refresh rate a crt is good for is 120Hz

unfortunately mine will only do it under 1024x768x32

I need to find a monitor that will do 1600x1200x32@120Hz!

anything below 120Hz hurts my eyes after a couple hours.

If you have a camera you can see what I'm talking about. Look at a monitor through the camera's viewfinder and you will see anything under 120Hz flickers like crazy...that's why my eyes hurt after a while. With 120Hz, my eyes are much more relaxed because I no longer see the flickering, in place is a slow steady image scroll. Give it a shot and you will never set your monitor under 120Hz again!

Now with LCDs, the refresh rate doesn't mean a thing, because you can set it at 60Hz and see no flickering through a viewfinder...

why? I have no idea!

Glad I returned my 2005.
If this monitor is even decent as a TV monitor, I'm all over it.
Even ehen I play using my DVD player to the 2005, the pictures seem like it was blown up somehow.
The 2405 has component inputs so lets hope

Looks like the 2405 has a slightly higher dot pitch:

2405FPW:

Horizontal 518.4 mm
Vertical 324.0 mm

2001FP:

Horizontal 408 mm
Vertical 306 mm

Close, but not exact.

Never hurt to try.
Tell them you want to return it because of the backlight issue...they know about it.
Say you want a different monitor....they'll probably let you return it.

Hmm, they have a 21-day no questions asked return policy, but I think it would be beneficial for them if they let you return it to get a more expensive monitor, provided it hasn't been like much over a month.
