I don't personally have much experience with this particular drive, but my friend installed two 74 gig WD raptor SATA drive in a raid configuration and he loves his system's performance. He got the drives used from one of our friends and so far its been working great.

Can't speak for that particular drive...but imho, WD makes the best quality HD's on the market, followed by seagate. Avoid maxtor like intelligent poeple avoid john kerry--I can't count the number of stories I've heard about maxtor drives failing within 1-2 years.

I talked to a couple of people (sort of friends..) who build many computers, and I myself have abit of experience, we got to the conclusion, that the bottom line is, that all HDD's are basickly a matter of luck, since we could all find stories regarding certain brand. I used to have segate baracuda and I loved it, also had WD, and I can't remmember having either bad nor good thing to say about it, that is "it just was there". Now I have a maxtor, which also seems to be ok, and I'm going to get that WD 160gb as I said, as long as it doesn't let me down with somthing major, I'll be happy. The only HDD I wasn't really happy with thus far is IBM's deskstar 60gb (which I also heard it's been nicknamed "deathstar"), but that is not to say those drives are bad, or worse than others for that matter, its just that my experience with it wasn't great. So, maybe it comes down to luck, anyway to be on the safeside, I wanted to hear if anyone has somthing terrible to say about that drive, which doesn't seem to be the case here, so I think I'll go for it. Another thing, I heard that WD has got a good technical support and RMA system, so I hope I never need it, but its good to know its there, I guess.

i'd go for a seagate one, but thats just me. They have a better warrentee and in my experience are quieter and more reliable than others.
