One of my best friends growing up was just charged with 2nd degree murder

I saw how someone reacts to hearing that a family member was murdered today

As the details started to come in, it turns out that the guy was one of my best friends growing up.

I had not seen him in about a year.

This is such a contrast to what so many people know of the guy. He's always been against violence, didn't use drugs, rarely drank and didn't like hanging out with people that did either.

I can't imagine what happened to cause him to attack his cousin.

Honestly, I have a feeling he was attacked first and in the struggle, totally lost it and turned the knife on his cousin.

I'm gonna visit him as soon as I can, but it's difficult because they're only allowed one visitor per day.

It's a weird feeling to know a friend of yours is in so much trouble.

No. We just sorta went our own ways. I went to university and he went to work.

OP sorry to hear about that. wow that is crazy. i've had two cousins killed in drive by's but i wasn't there when their mom found out. (they were brothers)

In the line of work I do (working with young adults with fetal alcohol spectrum disorder), it was really interesting to learn that on one hand I'm working with sex offenders, car thieves, and generally violent people, yet at the same time they can be the nicest people you will ever meet.

It used to be so easy to read the paper or watch the news and say "That person is a monster".

I truly believe most people are good people at heart, but are capable of being pushed to, and past the edge. I often wonder what the circumstances were surrounding various behaviours.

I certainly take nothing away from the fact that my friend has now killed someone and should be punished. But I do know that he is a good person at heart.

2 of the kids I grew up with are serving life sentences for different crimes. One was always a little out there but one was always quiet and laid back.

It sucks because they are basically dead. They are too far away to go see but you know they are living in that hell hole.

Crazy. I knew a guy in high school who ended up killing his brother one new year's eve at a party. He and his brother both got drunk, got into a stupid fight and he ended up stabbing his brother. They were both nice guys and the incident was, from what I remember of the guy, totally out of character.

He's out on bail right now awaiting trial for 2nd degree murder.

Seen those shows on NatGeo? There's a whole other life in prison... how much they decide to partake in it is a different story. If they had to live there, I'd think they'd make the most of it whether they'll get out or not. I don't care who you are, it's not possible to just mope around a cell for the rest of your life.
