And then the phone would have got recharged when sold or thrown away. Oh wait you weren't worried about losing the phone anyway so what did you have to lose to keep some fun alive.

BTW a 100 phone would be enough for me to warrant confronting someone. anything I own and purchase that someone takes from me is worth confronting.

even tho im more on this side as well, if i was alone and came up on 5 gangbangers with my stuff, id probably not pursue it too much farther. even tho im armed and a bit off the couch usually, im not really looking for their vendetta later on. the txt message was good enough in that situation i think. if it was something worth more than a few hundred or sentimental, id get my dad and his friends in low places to help recover it. being an ex biker and somewhat connected (to what, i have no idea, but i had a few people use that term when talking about my dad before) im pretty sure id get back what was taken, without the heat going on me.

i say kudos for scaring them without endangering yourself/ employees. phones are easily replaced, people arent.

After looking around for a while, my guy was pretty sure the phone was with a group of about 5 rough looking guys. Given the area, I'm sure they were gang members.
I sent them a short message, that I knew they would see right away because of the software we are running on these Nextels (Wireless eTrac).
The message read" You and your group of friends are under surveillance. You are standing next to the tree right by the lake and will soon be arrested!" (Ok so I'm not very creative...)
According to my guy, the guy holding the phone read the message and yelled something out. He threw the phone into the lake and they all ran in different directions.

I would have loved to be able to do something more, but reality dictates otherwise.
Even though the phone is dead, I'm happy that these guys did not get to profit from it. Phone insurance will take care of the replacement.

The Police did not feel the cost of the phone warranted an investigation, nor did they feel there was sufficient proof that the phone was in fact stolen ?!?

Nice job!

While my guy kept his eye on them, I hopped on my ninja and got the hell over there. We took up positions surrounding them, and then I sent them a short message, that I knew they would see right away because of the software we are running on these Nextels (Wireless eTrac).

The guy holding the phone read the message and yelled "Scatter!". He threw the phone towards the lake, but my employee dove and caught it right before it hit the water, preserving the evidence. THe gang members ran in different directions. I took after them on my bike.

Two of them headed together across the park lawn. I saw a rock formation jutting out on an angle and sped towards it. Using it as a ramp, I flew over the fleeing scumbags' heads and twisted the bike sideways, knocking them to the ground hard. I leapt off as one started to get shakily to his feet. I kicked him in the stomach, and he bent over retching. I elbowed him in the back of his neck and he went down, and stayed there. His buddy pulled a knife and lunged. I sidestepped and trapped his thrusting arm between my body and my left arm, then grabbed his wrist and twisted it, watching his wrist bones splinter. I kicked out his knee and ridgehanded his throat. The punk died choking on air that refused to funnel through his crushed trachea.

I grabbed my bike and headed to the park security terminal. The surveillance cameras probably got good looks at the remaining members. One call to my brother at the bureau, a few emailed images, and I'd track them down. And I'd find them. And I'd end this thing for good.

vigilante justice aside, its not worth the risk or the hassle to get a $200-300 phone back. you have a lot more to lose than you have to gain

I just wanted to thank you for perpetuating the "oh god no, don't actually try to defend yourself or your property. Let the professionals handle it" mentality that has turned this country and it's people into a bunch of pussies.

if you catch them IN the act then yes defend it.

But thats nto the situation. he goes up and attacks them or such they can sue him and odds are will win.

I can't roll my eyes hard enough. So, what you're saying is that a given number of people should try, based on what's likely fairly low resolution GPS, to find this phone and retrieve it at any cost? That's possibly the dumbest thing I've heard in a long time.

If you catch someone sneaking off with it, get him. If it's gone and all you have is a blip to tell you he's within 15 meters of an intersection, get over it.

err did you read or understand what i posted?

if you catch them in teh act of of stealing the phone (such as in the truck etc) then yes act on it. who knows what they are doing.

BUT chasing them down after the fact is silly. you open yourself up to not only getting hurt but opens himself up to lawsuits.

The reason why the local police didn't want to do anything because the moment you said cell phone and GPS they thought it was too complicated and didn't want to get involved. I'm sure an FBI agent would have fun with this though.

By the way, he said he's pretty sure these guys were MS13 gangsters.

Very good job indeed.

It's BS that stuff like this can happen and the police are too busy/ lack man power to do jack about it.

One punk stole my car wheel a few months back. Nothing came of it.

Damnit... you should have posted the number and let us Rickroll them about 80-bajillion times first. Imagine the thief getting rickrolled every 5 minutes at 4am... THAT would have been priceless.
