I think he had cashed out quite a bit, but also at the same time, and if IIRC, he had spent the last decade or so "mostly done" with fiddling with the market, but then Tesla happened, and other things happened, and he did seem to get more and more and more busy with the market, in what would seem a very short amount of time, for someone that had been long out of it--sort of like an impulse response and maybe he thinks he got way too into it for now?
This has been a bad week for many of the stocks that (especially ponyo) had been paying attention to and playing options on. Even though he did really well over this last year, I think it's possible that he definitely started playing more heavily into options over the most recent months, perhaps exposing himself more than he had told himself that he ever would, after those dotcom days c. 2000, as he often mentioned that he "learned a lot"--won big, and also lost very big at times.
So yeah, maybe he's taking some time to re-center. Honestly, this last week looks more like a huge buying opportunity for someone like ponyo because if he does believe in the long-term bets that he kept mentioning, then a lot of those stocks are a huge bargain right now. But then if he has way too many options right now at suddenly very unfavorable conditions (Again, I still no nothing about how these work--like depending on what days they are set to exercise and if he is somehow overleveraged to some degree that this last week's action, specifically, caused a bit of hemorrhaging), I guess it could require a bit of time off to refocus. Like--he went pretty hard into VGAC two weeks ago after a couple of us chatted about it here, and it is now down about 40% since that type--he ended up tripling (or more?) his exposure within that single day, so I have no idea if that is one of the major factors....but I've actually been looking at that dip as more of an opportunity for myself; however, I just buy shares to hold and I certainly don't have ponyo money risked there (nor do I have any kind of ponyo money to risk, lol)
Anyway, I hope he's back because he's too entertaining, and I won't be able to maintain my "full ponyo" investing strategy much longer if he stops posting.
