Suicide bombings are no worse than an F16 dropping Napalm on civilian targets. And one of these days I feel that Sharon will order a massive retaliation aimed at completely disabling Arafat's elite divisions. And with every day comes another suicide bomber, and with every bomber I feel that Sharon is closer to doing more than simple sortie missions against select targets.

I guess the topic up for discussion is how will the world react when Israel does indeed start a campaign against Palestinians? Can they really say they're unjustified when every day state-supported terrorists blow up markets?

You're right - Sharone <sp?> is gonna snap. He has used questionable (ok, as*holish) ethics in past dealings and I'm surprised at his control so far but he can't go on for ever with it. Maybe he would snap but knows that the US won't back him if he does.

<< We should arm the Palestinians to even out the odds. I bet the Isrealies would negotiate then. >>

Thats exactly the truth! There is NO better way to state it!

Sharon is behaving like a nationalist show-baoting fool imo. The method of retaliation that Palestine offers is nothing that could ever be circumvented or prevented through the direct military engagement that Sharon offers. Ordering F-16 strikes on the neighborhoods of Palestine, or the deployment gunships on small bands of rock throwing disedents are little more than a display of Israel's military prowess to the international community (namely some of Israels other less than sympathetic neighbors.) Furthermore, Sharon's so called "zero tolerance" policy is what got him elected to begin with and actually manifesting that plan certainly won't make his new found prominance any less stable. Sharon will further incite Israels already aggressive position towards Palestine likely into a full scale conflict, and once subdued (let's say if it actually comes to that point) Palestine will continue their retaliatory bombings and their vicious stone throwing. Really the whole thing just irks me a bit. Give a man an inch, he'll take a mile. Give a man a the most sophisticated military in the world, he'll take a couple thousand lives.

Are you asking are they justified, or are you asking if the world will see them as justified.

My feeling is this full out assault has already begin... and wisely Sharon, Peres and others, are all building a media campaign to ensure that international opinion (especially the united states is in their favor). Until this media campaign is completed, and international opinion is swayed... we will not see the major attack, which I'm sure has already been planned.

IMHO. Israel has to do 2 things now in order to both justify their actions, and secure peace and security.

1. Remove settlers from Judea, Samaria, and the Gaza Strip.

2. Crack down hard on Palestinian para-military organizations...

once these two actions take place... the middle east will begin it's slow approach to stabilization with the only outstanding issues being East Jerusalem, and the Shebaa Farms.

Arm the Palestinians and then the Israelis are instantly justified to carry out a full scale war. There is no way that even with mucho US funding the Palestinians can match the already established IDF. It would be a slaughter...

Furthermore... the Palestinian extremist groups would run amock... they have no interest in negotiations.. their goal is the removal of the Israeli state. Why would they negotiate when they face the prospect of achieving this end?... it would be the straw that broke the camels back shoving the Middle East into a full fledged multi-nation slaughter.

What a tremendously bad idea!

Maybe he's watched The Untouchables too many times.

You wanna get Capone? Here's how you get him. He pulls a knife, you pull a gun. He sends one of yours to the hospital, you send one of his to the morgue. That's the Chicago way. And that's how you get Capone!
