Here in California I thought we coddled our illegal immigrants with freebies, but this takes the cake. We need to let our welfare cheats know that they can get a better deal in Switzerland and give them a one-way ticket.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...-seven-moves-costs-40-000-month-benefits.html

A village of just 1,000 residents in Switzerland has been forced to raise taxes because an African refugee and her seven children cost the local authority £40,000 in benefits every month.

Hagenbuch, in the Swiss canton of Zurich, is understood to be spending close to a third of its total annual budget on the family after they arrived from Eritrea in East Africa three years ago.

The massive benefits bill covers day-to-day living expenses such as groceries and cleaning costs, as well as paying for four of the woman's children to be housed in an orphanage and even bills for general entertainment - such as guided tours of local attractions and entry fees for the zoo.

Solely to cover the cost of the family's massive benefits bill, the local authority is now planning to raise taxes in the village by a shocking five per cent .

'I don't know where to turn. I think we have no other choice but to raise taxes,' Mayor Therese Schlaepfer told daily Swiss newspaper Blick.

She added that local residents were justifiably outraged by the spiraling costs of caring for the family, who require a team of social workers to spend six hours a day, six days a week on them alone.

When the woman and her family arrived in Hagenbuch three years ago, the municipal government immediately agreed to cover the full cost of their rent and £1,700 a month in living expenses.

A short time later the woman sought further financial help, claiming she had become overwhelmed by family commitments and was now struggling to look after all seven of her children.

This resulted in four of them being sent to an orphanage - with the local authority paying out £6,000 for each child every month - a total cost of £24,000.

On top of this there are also the costs of helping the woman pay her cooking and cleaning bills - plus rolling entertainment expenses, such as paying the entry fee for all eight family members at the zoo.

As well as straight handouts, the family also reportedly cost the local authority thousands more every month by tying up social workers and carers for six hours a day, six days a week.

On average these social workers cost the council about £90 every hour they work, rising to £95 an hour in the evening or at weekends.

They take "It takes a Village" to a whole new level.

I can't find a single *real* news article about it anywhere.

Yeah, you must have tried REAL hard. It took me a whole 10 seconds to find video reports and interviews:

http://rt.com/news/188192-swiss-village-refugee-taxes/

and the original article in the Swiss newspaper that was referenced by all the other articles:

http://www.blick.ch/news/schweiz/so...zh-wir-sind-jeden-franken-wert-id3130347.html

And a picture of the family. Looks like they missed the kid on the right:

Calling bullshit on this story, as I do for just about every immigrant scare story that appears in the Daily Mail.

Care to translate?

EDIT: Swiss tabloid of the quality of the Daily Mail I see. While I'm curious as to how they report on this I'm still waiting for a non-tabloid source, or direct government source.

Given how racist the Swiss seem to be not sure if I have any sympathy.

They don't even shop or clean.

"Shopping, cleaning and looking after the rest of her kids (the 3 she didn't send to a children's home) is done by social workers"

Sure sounds like a vacation to me.

When Obamacare kicks in fully, we'll all be able to quit our jobs to fulfill our dreams. We can be painters, musicians and sculptors. Many thanks to Nancy Pelosi for all her hard work getting Obamacare passed.

So, you can‘t—everybody has so much to gain from this, small businesses, as I said, seniors, young people, women, our economy. Think of an economy where people could be an artist or a photographer or a writer without worrying about keeping their day job in order to have health insurance or that people could start a business and be entrepreneurial and take risk, but not job loss because of a child with asthma or someone in the family is bipolar—you name it, any condition—is job locking.
Of course working will still be allowed for those suckers dumb enough to do so.

This is more than half the cost. Why does it cost so much per child at the orphanage? It shouldn't even be 6K for all 4 kids.

They opened up the orphanage just for those 4 kids. So all the overhead is being spent on them.

Because pointing out that the orphanage is conning money would be considered unxenophobic.

£6,000 is almost 10k dollars. I know Swiss is an expensive country and wages are high but this seems ridiculous even for their standards.

I remember on the light-rail train going to L.A. a woman got on with four small kids in tow, one in a stroller and she was very pregnant. Another woman saw her and said, "Wow that must be a lot to handle." The other woman said, "Yes but we get $400 a month for every kid we have, so it really works out."

I suddenly understood why I saw so many women (poor enough not to have cars) going about town with lots of kids.

Those carers aren't cheap either. 135 CHF * 6 hours * 25 days = 20250 = ~$21k a month for 'helping with groceries and cleaning'. Someone's getting rich from this.

She also expressed her anger at the fact that immigrants have only rights and no obligations. According to the mayor’s words, the situation is causing the obvious outrage of the villagers as well.

A woman from Eritrea and her seven children moved to the quiet village three years ago, with a visa allowing her to stay in Switzerland for five years, and the possibility to extend it later.

The municipal government immediately took responsibility for paying her rent and also gave the family 2,600 francs a month to cover living expenses.

Other villagers are not happy with the situation. "Our citizens have to pay a lot in taxes, and the third of the local money goes just to one family. There are plenty of families in Switzerland who do not have much to live on, but they get by. This seems wrong to us. The government has to do something," a local woman said.

When the woman arrived the municipal government agreed to cover her rent and living expenses.

The woman then asked for further financial aid stating that she was overwhelmed by her family commitments.

Four of her kids was then sent to an orphanage at a costs of €7,500 a month, per child.

On top of this the woman’s cooking, cleaning and entertainment bills, such as trips to the zoo are covered.

The family reportedly ties up the areas social workers and carers for six hours a day at a cost of €115 per hour.

What is the future of a society where 'special' groups only have rights but have no obligations?
