Yes. The mandated HPV vaccine is another amazing medical development.

The amazing thing is how they made it so it lurks in the shadows and jumps the unwary, forcefully injecting them and no doubt stealing their wallets and handbags in the process. An awful conspiracy.

I seriously never understood the objections to it. Parents could opt their children out if they really wanted to and it will save thousands of people from a horrible death. That would seem like a no-brainer to me, but apparently not.

My wife and I have always taught our children that sex is not a casual thing and that promiscuity is not a virtue. Nevertheless one committed relationship is all that is required and we cannot assume that our children will always make the best choices. Consequently we had our daughter vaccinated shortly after it came out and when it is approved for males we will have the same done for (not to) our son. It's the responsibility of parents to care for our children and if this is not doing so I cannot imagine what is.

Sure. If you want to teach the harms of promiscuity to children, I'm all for it. Fear of death by cervical cancer is not a valid way to go about this in my opinion.

Agreed, although I'm not sure about the mindset of people who would deny their children from freedom from such a disease. I'm not disputing that fear is a tool some use, but I've also come across the attitude that abstinence equates to an inherent moral superiority that somehow confers a magical immunity. Well all it takes is one time to cause a lifetime of misery. A parent who is willing to take that chance with their children's health displaying worse judgement than any degree of promiscuity. This is medicine, not morals.

I agree with this also. I find parents who elect not to vaccinate their children almost criminally negligent, I just think that what would be required in order to have the government forcibly vaccinate those children is probably a case of the cure being worse than the disease. Just not worth it.

Glad to see this! im also hoping that a cure for cancer is in the not to distant future.
Far less likely than an effective AIDS vaccine. There are so many very different forms of cancer is the reason.

False, vaccinations are for entire populations. If an effective AIDS vaccine is developed that can be safely administered without significant side effects, every single person in the world should take it.
Like small pox (which AFAIK has been eradicated), which was the first vaccine ever created. It was quite by accident. In fact "vaccine" the word comes from the root word for cow, the animal that would contract cow pox. It was discovered that human exposure to cow pox (which is a relatively mild in its effects on humans) bestowed immunity in humans to small pox, the discovery was quite by accident. This led to the first "vaccine."

I have always been optimistic that an effective AIDS vaccine would be developed but it proved far more difficult than I imagined. I was surprised that control of the epidemic (at least in terms of its mortality) has been as a result of drug development and deployment and not a vaccine. Recent developments suggest that prevention instead of treatment might be the next important step in dealing with this world wide health crisis. Personally, I think that anything that makes you afraid to have sex is very bad news. And that's just the effect it has on people who don't have the disease ...
