and ultimately true, USC didn't win the national championship that year and therefore can not be national champions.
National Championships have always been counted by AP titles. USC won the AP National Championship trophy that year.
Saying they didnt win a title would take away all those split national titles.

USC and LSU were split national champions....LSU was number 1 in the BCS, USC was #1 in two polls....so split national champion...yes, LSU was the BCS champ, but it was still a split national championship. USC, in my opinion, was significantly better than LSU that year - USC's best D of the last 3 years.
USC the next year won the BCS and the other major polls - although Auburn didn't lose a game, they also weren't #1 in any of the season-ending polls - thus, USC was the national champ last year. USC vs Auburn would have been a great game last year btw.
Get over it

No, they haven't. AP has been used along with the Coaches Poll since like the 70s. Since the advent of the BCS, the National Champion is determined by the BCS Championship Game which LSU won in 2003.
You dont know ****** about college football then. The first AP poll was in 1936. The AP has been giving a championship award ever since, and will continue to do so even when the BCS is defunct.
The AP can award all the trophies it wants to. Since the implementation of the BCS there is only one recognized national champion period. The main purpose of the BCS was to have the two best teams face off at the end of the year in a national championship game. The BCS doesn't always work perfectly but teams that are left out of the NC game even with an unblemished record are left out for a reason. Usually it's strength of schedule which includes wins over quality opponents as well as opponents records. The SOS determining factors aren't perfect either, but until there is a playoff system it's the best we have. USC won the 2004 national championship. They were left out in 2003 because of their weak schedule. They can only blame themselves even though scheduling is done usually several years in advance.
Not correct. The BCS determines the BCS champion, which still comes through the polls. At the formation of the BCS, the coaches agreed that the BCS champion would automatically be the number 1 team in the coaches' poll. On the other hand, the AP never agreed to this. Therefore, there were co-national champions in 2003. Even the coaches had USC rated number 1 before the bowls, but had to switch their votes.
Note that I am not a USC fan, and I also think that most college football national championships are mythical. It should be decided on the field...a playoff is needed! Whose to say that Auburn wasn't the best team last year, or Utah for that matter?

I think the ESPN/USA Today Coaches poll would have had a few backers in the media

Just because he's a USC alum doesn't mean he has oodles of cash, most likely the opposite.

The thing that sucks the most about the AP is that it's the same old popularity contest that favors the big name programs and schools in the most populated regions. If the situations could have somehow been reversed in 2003 and LSU had been locked out of the BCS game (and still won against Michigan) while USC knocked off Oklahoma, there's absolutely NO WAY the AP would've given LSU the AP title over USC no matter how deserving they might have been. Only a school like USC, Notre Dame, Michigan, Ohio St or maybe one of the Florida schools could receive that type of treatment.

I still dont understand why this lsu fan/student is pissed, no one is taking away their national championship they won in 2003, they just shared it, instead of trying to descredit SC, they should worry about their own team, they have had 2 very average seasons since then ( 2 bowl losses and 6 overall losses in that period I think)
