Also echoing this request. I was going to get a used S7 Edge after the Note 7 announcement was somewhat disappointing (Note 7 has same specs as S7 Edge basically).

Then I realized the OP3 has same Snapdragon 820 CPU and even more RAM at 6GB yet costs only $399...

I would imagine the camera is way better on the S7 Edge as compared to OP3 though.
I've seen so far that the camera on the Note 7 is quite similar (the same?) as the S7. The OP3 camera does get beat by the S7 but not by enough to justify twice the price (retail), at least to me. The S-Pen is nice but I don't have a use case for it.

is the slightly better camera worth 300-400$ to you? if it is, buy it. I am 100% sure most of us would not.

Might want to spend some time over at the OnePlus forums to see the other side of the coin which is OnePlus support as well as software. OnePlus has basically left the One, Two and X phones as after thoughts. The One I can understand as it is the result of their pissing match with CM.

The Two and the X are not even a year old and the Two was originally marketed as their "2016 Flagship Killer". The X was really just a proof of concept to see if they could sell a subpar phone that was physically attractive.

The Three is a great phone with some software issues here and there but overall a great value. Just be aware that if you buy from OnePlus don't put much stock in support for the hardware or software in the future.

If you are comfortable rooting your phone and flashing custom ROM's then it should not be much of an issue. For the normal every day user, I would tell them to buy something else.

You can pick up a lightly used Nexus 6P on Swappa for under $350 most days and the price should drop some more as the HTC Nexus drumbeat gets louder closer to release.

I am weighing between a new OnePlus3 for $400 or a used S7 Edge (on Swappa etc.) for $500. I'm thinking I'll get the S7 Edge for $100 more, giving me wireless charging, better camera, and water proofing. The only thing I'd be missing from the Note 7 is S-Pen (cool gimmick when I had the Note 5...but I quickly stopped using it), 0.2" of screen size, and 32GB of built-in storage (32GB on S7 Edge VS 64GB on Note 7) which can be mitigated by large MicroSD card

if you can get it for 500$ that could be worth it. better support and the camera + water proof.

I am actually buying axon 7 for the better resolution + microsd slot over the OP3. it went on sale just a few days ago. it has slightly worst camera than op3

a normal everyday user would hate the frequent updates actually. I had to fix my sister's nexus phone 5+ times in the last 2 years because an update messed up her phone.

we are not talking about older versions of op3 are we? we are talking about OP3 and axon 7. from what I have seen it is great, both of them. the 400$ price tag doesn't hurt either.

a normal everyday user just want a phone with great specs that just works. frequent patching and updating is actually very bad for them. the support you want are for the techies like us, not them.

Yea that's what I'll do, thanks. Hope I dont regret it when the Nexus 2016 gets announced in September 2016!
new phones are released every few months. look for something you want and buy it, never look back. my old phone lasted almost 3 years. it works and it works great. if I didn't want a better front facing camera I would probably have stuck with it for 1 more year.

Very true, I'm using a Nexus 6 which has been great! I wish there was a direct replacement with almost 6" screen and excellent stereo front-facing speakers. Alas, there hasn't been really any direct replacement. My main complaint with it is the camera is pretty bad, and I keep missing nice shots of my kid. The one consoling thing for me is that the S7 Edge camera is likely to be better than the Nexus 2016.

I won't argue with your points about the X and the 2 but this ^^^ is just not accurate. I spend plenty of time at the OP forums and as I said earlier the One has received several updates in the last few months. And Cyanogen himself still sports a OPO as one of his regular devices. Here's a post from him directly at the OP forums in April:

https://forums.oneplus.net/threads/...-for-oneplus-one.440897/page-21#post-14718596

As it turns out the limiting factor on OPO support in the future will be Qualcomm, not Cyanogen.

How is 1+ hardware after sales support, specifically in Europe?
If there are some hardware problems, where do I send the phone? Who pays the shipping? Do they give any pain about it?

should be the same as any manufactured warranty. I am pretty sure you can read what the warranty is on the op3 website, it is what I remember. keep in mind that OP3 only offers 1 year of it, while axon 7 offers 2 years.

1+ has HORRIBLE customer support. If your device is broke, you're basically screwed. Google around for that.

care to link some horror stories? would help alot of people out with their decision. if the phone broke without the fault of the user and they would not do anything about it within the warranty year, that is a huge red flag. boded part being the key.

I said to Google it, that's as far as I'll go.

They are halting sales for a month in Europe and Asia to "catch up with demand."

And if we think on it some, it makes sense. Something has to suffer for those specs to fit into that price.

would help alot if you can pin point a few glaring examples, not just "google it" when I googled I got the screen color/brightness issue and not using the full 6gb ram. that was all I got.

so, links?

He sounds like he's being an ass, but he's right. Look up the original OnePlus thread here in MD&G... I remember several stories of people with issues and no support. I'd be pretty hesitant.

That's really discouraging :/

Axon 7 is looking more and more likely, especially if USA model also work in Europe, since a friend could get it for me in USA. Have to investigate bands and international warranty though.

TL;DR - it's really bad...

Seems anandtech doesn't like that link! You'll just have to Google it yourself.

if warranty is what you are worrying about, axon 7 gives 2 years manufacturer. another reason to get the axon 7 maybe

Well since I posted, I found out that USA model of Axon7 will not work properly in Europe and warranty is not worldwide.

So now I have to read another dozen reviews, to see which one it better for me.

I'd like QHD because I would MAYBE be interested in mobile VR when DayDream comes, but I find OP3 better value proposition considering everything.

Also, battery life is very important.

meh, battery life is just not important imo. as long as it is more than 3000mah. because most new phones all have very aggressive background app killing feature.

why doesn't the axon 7 work in europe? isn't it just gsm? axon 7 actually supports more signals than OP3.

warranty only covers usa and china? it isn't selling in europe? that could be the reason.

the thing is if you wait till oct/nov, alot of new phones comes out. you might be able to get the current flagships at a discount. if you don't mind 3-6 months old phones.

It's nice that they're still making Cyanogen Inc. fulfill the terms of their contract and all, but that has NO bearing on their actual customer support. Which remains awful.

I feel like this is not a difficult concept.
I was addressing the earlier contention that OS updates were lacking. Only a fool would argue that OnePlus does a good job with warranty support.
