Uhh..what even is it? Is it just speakers or does it have some sort of receiver/decoder built into it? The wattage is real low is one thing I notice.

Yeah, the stupid WYSIWYG editor sux a$$. Thanks for the fixed link.

Low wattage, has a receiver, but you still need your own DVD, stereo, CD, etc... This is an upgrade to existing systems. The low wattage is fine for a small apartment like mine...

Froma another site:

Compact, Integrated & Easy
The compact Super Woofer unit includes amplifiers and decoders for 5.1 channel surround sound reproduction from DVD players, video game consoles, digital cable, satellite receivers and personal computers using Dolby Digital and DTS soundtracks. New and improved Dolby Pro Logic II decoding is also on-board. Installation is straightforward and simple and operation is easy with the included remote control.

Surround Sound Advancements
In addition to the ultra-realistic 5.1 channel surround sound of Dolby Digital and DTS, you also have the advantage of Dolby Pro Logic II, an advancement over 4-channel Dolby Pro Logic that adds left and right stereo surround channels (at the rear), and a woofer channel for bass reproduction to form a 5.1 channel sound stage from conventional Dolby Pro Logic sources (like many movies recorded on VHS tapes or broadcast). This digital theater system also comes equipped with a proprietary Onkyo surround mode that can reproduce 5.1 channel surround sound from analog sources like TVs and video players that are not compatible with Dolby Pro Logic. With all this decoding and processing at your fingertips, you'll experience dynamic, pulse pounding surround sound from all your entertainment choices.

Powerful & Natural Sounding
The woofer employs Onkyo's compact J'Drive system that jets high-pressure air through an opening at the front of the unit to generate powerful and natural-sounding bass that will add new impact to your movies and games. The total power output of 75 watts provides dynamic and full sounding surround sound reproduction for movies, music and games.

Onkyo Micro Fiber (OMF)
OMF is an advanced material developed by Onkyo specifically for speaker cones. The space between the ultra-fine 100% silk threads in OMF gives it excellent vibration absorbing characteristics. The OMF cone provides an extremely thin yet rigid flexing diaphragm for fast and accurate transient response. This gives excellent midrange clarity and imaging for astonishingly vivid and natural sound. The speaker and main unit cabinets are made from high-quality wood for a stylish appearance and the best sound quality.

In The Box - Included Accessories
The FX-Digital Theater includes: Main unit, 5 Satellite speakers, cables for front and center speakers (8 feet x 3), cables for surround speakers (26 feet x 2), Optical Digital Audio cable, 1 set of cork spacers for satellite speakers, remote control.

In case anybody is interested, Frys has these on sale through today for the same price, $99.99. Confirmed in BA and DFW. I picked one up at Dallas, looks pretty decent, but not sure how well it will work as a PC speaker set. Will hook it up this weekend. Sub/amp unit felt pretty substantial, all controls are handled by the remote only. It does use regular speaker wire for the speakers, and has a cooling fan in the back that turns on as needed. Has 1 optical, 1 coax digital and 1 set of RCA inputs. No other connections. Remote allows you to cycle through all three, and change the speaker mode. If nothing else it will make a good HT setup for the bedroom, which already has a Tosh DVD player and TV.

How many inputs does it have? Would it have enough for my computer and dvd player?

3 inputs

1 digital optical
1 digital coax
1 set of analog RCA

My only concern is how well it works as a PC speaker system, since it does not have 5.1 inputs like most PC speakers. It claims to be able to emulate 4.1 or 5.1 from an analog signal, I just have not had the time to see how well it works.

I have this system. It was on sale at Circuit City for $199. discontinued, but the DTS/Dolby Digital effects are great! I would highly recommend this system at this price - it will connect to any PC and knock the shoes off of some other speaker systems.

Most PC speakers uses PMPO Watt to make it look good

cheapo speaker spec: 120 watts PMPO/1.7 Watt RMS

I believe Onkyo does not meant PMPO wattage (correct me if I am wrong)

How do these compare to the Klipsch 5.1s? Or the Logitech 680s? I know those are in a whole different league pricewise but is the performance worth an additional 200 dollars? My Klipsch 2.1s recently broke down on me

Onkyo products are top of the line and are usually very under-rated in terms of wattage and consistently outperfrom others with higher wattage ratings. Because of the way wattage is measured differently between manufacturers, it is never an accurage indicator of how well a system will sound. I have nothing but good things to say about Onkyo. My first ever Onkyo product was a refurbished cd shelf system that I purchased in the early days of Ubid (late 90's). It is still sounding great to this day. I've since purchased many higher-end Onkyo products. My current HT setup includes the TX-DS595 and it keeps the neighbors calling all the time.

I think this would make a great HT setup for my parents. My only question is whether the remote is RF or Infrared. I'd like to place the subwoofer/receiver unit behind an entertainment center and would therefore require the remote to be RF. Anyone have this product or know about the remote?

75 Watts could be wall shaking and even have a LOT of headroom depending on the listening environment and the efficiency of the speakers involved. I obviously don't know the specifics of where this setup would be used in every situation, but as said before, this would be very nice for a small apartment or dorm room.

To instantly say that "75 Watts is crap" just makes you look like you don't know much about audio.

You have been lead astray oh wise one. Wattage can only be compared acrossed the same manufacturer; if your Sony boom box has 450 watts and a mid-level Onkyo receiver has 400 watts, I can guarantee the Onkyo would blow the Sony out of the water. Manufacturer's report it differently. Some want to be honest, some want to sell more products to those that think wattage really matters.

Wattage importance is a misnomer.

Do you have it hooked up to your PC, or are you using it as a HT setup with a DVD player?

A friend of mine uses these in her bedroom. They fill up that space very nice with a nice rich sound at low volumes. I thought they kinda sucked a a higher volume though as distortion got a little bad. The sats are pretty weak but hey, for $99 for a reciever independant 5.1 pspeaker set? It was music to my ears.

I am buying 3 sets of these for my family whom I bought DVD players for this past Xmas. This will give them a nice DVD starter home theatre kit without having to buy a seperate A/V reciever which they all don't have anyways.

Thanks for the deal. I didn't really need another set of speakers but the price was too tempting. Maybe I'll give them to my parents for the 1 or 2 times a year they watch a movie.
