Yah, I think you press the surround button and then the arrows to the right until you get to Stereo surround...

Oh ya, remember to mess with the "tone" settings on the receiver itself. Really helps out the treble amazingly plus fixes the bass...

You do have the 5.1 multichannel analog connection on your receiver iirc, so you're good to go if you want to try that.

Yeah I read up a bit on the analog VS digital debate and it seems like I'll probably stick with analog for the receiver as my Audigy 2 has okay DACs. Although I'll probably give coax digital a spin to hear the difference (if any). I love how all the bad reviews about this system on the net either a) mention Monster cables as being awesome *cringe* b) mention that "it's not as good as a Bose..." *double cringe* and c) mention the bass is WEAK and doesn't "thump" enough *crin..*... yeah you get the picture, clueless reviewers who don't know how to properly set up a receiver, source, or the difference between audio fidelity and marketing.

In case anyone missed the previous posts, DONT EVER BUY MONSTER CABLES.

Buy from monoprice, cablesforless, etc. They offer good cables at VERY competitive prices.

make sure to turn on the speakers in Speaker Settings. Even if you hear sound during the speaker test, they may still be off in the settings.

I'm surprised at the speed of Onkyo and their customer service. I got a call this morning about my order - turns out I'd used my dorm addy as the billing address for my CC when I should have used my home addy. I got that sorted out and the order shipped out today! Looks like I should expect it this week, can't wait to test it out with some DVDs and music... and maybe some CSS

Just got my package right now - setting it up, so far looks like it'll be good. For the description under "Refurbished" it says "Minor cosmetic defects" :thumbsup:

Setup for now with digital out via SP/DIF coax. I get surround 5.1 with movies and stereo with games and music, but it sounds good to me nonetheless. Midrange is pretty good, treble is decent, and bass is soft but good - not too punchy or boomy. Looks like I saved $150 because the unit had scuffs and scratches

Just bought a 100 ft. spool of 16ga speaker wire, 25' coax cable, and 3 3.5mm stereo to dual male RCA splitter cables for $22.55 before shipping thru cablesforless. Google checkout surprisingly shows $0.00 for shipping?!

Anyhow I like small operations that offer quality products at reasonable prices :thumbsup:

A guy from cablesforless called me up to correct the shipping cost error and explained that the merchant site they use hasn't properly implemented GCO. Well he was friendly and I can tell the business is well-run - I feel good supporting an honest merchant.

Edit: Deal is still on but at the higher price of $169 - $10 onkyo points... at that price range a brand new system for ~$200 (if you can find it that low) might be better.
