The HTS 760's are back in stock with free speaker stands for $299 - $10 (for signing up with onkyo).
californians pay tax though. You need to log in for the $299 price.

Gott mine from this deal a few months ago.
LOVE 'EM!
They had no physical blemishes, either.
I am a happy camper.

Wow... If Onkyo receivers can make Bose speakers sound good, they're miraculous!

When I was building my HT system I watched this site religiously. Then up popped the TX-SR600. Bought it refurbished and two weeks later it was dead. It's not a refurb for nothing.
Having been in the industry for about 15 years, I can tell you this about refurbs. As a rule, if you get a good one, it will last as long as an "A-stock" unit. However there is a higher rate of "out of the box" defects. The reason is that a certain percentage of units returned as defective have an intermittant defect, which does not turn up when the refurb tech checks the unit. The tech may then chalk the complaint up to user error and release the unit as fine, when in fact the defect is still there. For this reason, knowing the initial exchange policy on a refurb is useful. But as for buying the extended warranty, I wouldn't make this decision any differently based on whether the unit was a refurb or not. If there is an uncorrected problem related to the unit being a refurb, it is likely to crop up shortly after purchase (well within the factory warranty).

I bought the 760's refurb from the Onkyo store over a year ago, last july/aug I believe, and I've had no problems. Well other then the fact that I paid $450 for them and now they can be found for $300.

They're not Klipsch, Axiom, Polk etc., but they're still excellent entry-level home theater speakers that do a good job at replaying music, and an even better job at recreating a 5.1 movie experience. If you have good ears, you might notice that mid-range, while good, could be more detailed and less laid back. But I'm a fan of Klipsch speakers. Besides, the Onkyo receiver will be ready to accept better speakers when you decide to purchase them.

i would argue against getting onkyo speakers, since i've not been impressed with them at all. yamaha used to make very nice speakers, though they seemed to have been losing it a bit lately.

i got the HTR510 receiver (just the receiver) from ecost.com about a year ago powering these babies. distortion is limited to only times when the receiver is driven very hard. all in all, onkyo and HK receivers are my cup of tea in this price-range.

Hmm. Received the speakers, receiver and stands a couple of days ago.Everything looked new and all cables were included. But for the big refurb sticker it is difficult to figure out that these are not new. Unfortunately the receiver seems DOA :|
Called up onkyo service and they were real nice. Said they would send out a prepaid shipping label and also a new receiver
within the week.
Oh well thats what happens when you buy refurbs i guess. Anyone else have problems with the (refurbed) receivers ?

After you bought a system from shoponkyo.com, did they give you additional points for future purchase?
If so, how many points did you get?

I bought a set last yr for my bros inlaw. Dont forget to replace the stock speaker cable.
You can floss yer teeth with the ones in the package. Dont go running around getting 500+ monster spkr cables, run down to the home depot and get some 12-14 gauge stuff.
Made a huge difference in the sound, for less than 8 bucks in cable.
Onkyo stuff is great, i own some integra gear, their lexus line and its been running great for over 3 yrs, cycling it on and off everyday, since its connected to my tv.

Heck if I remember...I do want to say I got my HTiB and I am real happy with it.
It sounds terrific. It looked like brand new when I got it (still does!).

I got mine and love it! It sounds wonderful with the stuff included, but I'm considering going out and buying some new speaker wire and also some different connections (other than RCA) for my system. Anyone have any suggestions for video and sound? My Dvd player has component, coaxial, svideo, and RCA and my tv has svideo and rca.
