ONKYO TX-SR500 Refurb $149.88 plus shipping at J&R Music and Computer
Mine arrived in less than a week. Shipping was just $21.60 and it was well packaged. Comes with a 1 year factory warranty. They were $299.99 at Circuit City until discontinued a couple of weeks ago and replaced by an almost identical unit, TX-SR501. Same power and features, but now 6.1 instead of 5.1.

J&R has a 5.92 score on Reseller Ratings.

I ordered one of these and just thought I'd confirm that my unit has no LFE problem. It was a problem with many of the units.

Don't know about their rating, but J&R's been around longer than most of the people on Anandtech.
I've had a couple dealings with them and no problems, shipping was a bit high, but timely service.

I can't jump on this b/c I have a one-year old receiver I'm happy with already, but I just wanted to give two thumbs up to J&R. They've been around since LONG before the commercial internet days. I used to drool over their ads in Stereo Review. I finally ordered from them last year and their service is top notch. I got a personal sales rep who gave me his name and extention and even called back for follow-up. Very impressive in this day of Amazon and buy.com.

Thanks for a great audio deal. J&R has been around for ages and should be a great company to buy from. Even if this Onkyo is a refurb, it's still one hell of a DTS monster.

On Onkyo's own site, it goes for $219 refurbished, but with free shipping, so yes for $50 less this is a great deal. I'm still holding out for the 600 though.

haha, my girlfriend lives right next to J&R. it's as credible a company to buy from as best buy/circuit city/etc. that said, their return policy is crap though--no refunds except for defect w/in 14 days.

Thanks for the answers! I haven't found a need for that. I have an H/K 325. It displays the source I've selected on the screen but nothing more. I almost held out for these new Onkyos last year. The only thing I don't have that I'd have liked is ProLogic II for watching TV (which I do far more than movies).

I got this model last year at circuit city. Demo for $225. Had to send it back once after about 3 weeks but has been working fine ever since. I would reccomed for any ectry level reciever.

You kidding mE? J&R is a major chain of stores and this is their web front. I've bought lots of electronics through them no probs. Extremely professional, up there w/ the other B&M stores.

J&R is not a MAJOR CHAIN store, it has only 1 store in mahattan. but yes its famous for branded stuff with lesser price.

THe sr-600 is usually $400 or less on ebay as "buyitnow"...probably a lot less since I bought mine for $409 around march

OneCall still has the TX-SR600 refurbished for $297 plus shipping until tomorrow.

The 600 has 6 channels of amplification instead of 5, more power (a stouter power supply too), component video switching, Dolby Digital EX, DTS-ES 6.1 Matrix & Discrete, and a few other goodies. Those are probably the most important differences though.
