god damn you're retarded

I concur. Online poker is a pretty easy way to make money. Even just clearing bonuses and playing breakeven will net you a few hundred a month. I'm working on a $200 bonus at Pokerroom now.

Pokerstars. Been too busy to play more than a couple tourneys a month since I moved to a new position(that, and I hit my first ugly losing streak in April), but I did win a 180-player SNG 2 nights ago. It was only a $4 game, so I only won $216, though

Those are a PITA to play through. I think I took about 4 hours and I took home $30 or so in a $1 quick tourney (or was it a freeroll, forgot), but yea.. 4hours for all that, and I was like damn this is stupid. You have to have major patience to sit through those, and I think that's the longest game I've played.

I think the 10 player SnGs are the best. 1 hr and if you're good you should come out making an average of $10 per game assuming $10 buyins (long run). If you do better, well you should... I found that playing in the library when I was supposed to be studying got me better concentration because I could focus on the game not not listen to MP3s, or IM or do other things I might do in my bedroom, and as a result I placed top 3 very very frequently (often 1st or 2nd).

But yea, I guess I've retired from poker... At one point I was down something like $400 because of $50 NL and stuff, but I made it all back with SnGs and like $10 NL games..

That's what I used to do, mostly(1-table SNG. 9 players at PS). Although I didn't sustain 90% ROI like you're suggesting that one should. Over 400 SNGs at $5-$20 SNGs I did 50% ITM and 40% ROI(in 9-player games, so my ITM should be a little higher than of those who play at PP or some other place with 10-player SNGs). From reading discussions online, I don't think anyone's ever achieved 90% ROI in a long run.

I've put in $50 for a month at Party a couple times and usually end up loosing it all on the regular NL and Limit tables. I may do well for awhile but it never ends well. This last time I've stuck to just playing in the $5+1 limit multi-table tournaments and am doing decent. I'm up $52 for after about 8 tournaments with the two best finishes being 37 and 38th out of 800-1k people. Only won $38 for one and $29 I think for the other which isn't exactly great for 4 hours of work but it was fun . Usually get knocked out in the bottom 1/3rd of the money where you do a little better then making back your entrance fee maybe double. May have to give a smaller sit in go a try now though.

Just a little offer that I'm going to put out there. I've made over $50k this month alone. The proof is a few posts up in that screen shot. If you don't believe it, well I can even send you parts of or my whole database. If anyone is interested in signing up with PartyPoker, please send me a PM. I will fully answer your questions, give you some tips on playing, etc. I do get a small kickback for each player I sign up, my incentive.

Like Yossarian said, it means Sit-N-Go. It's just a 1 table tournament. You buy in for a fixed amount, and usually the top 3 players get paid.

How much of that money do you report on your income tax return?

I report all of it. I'm a rising junior at a top unversity, and I plan on getting a masters in Financial Math. I plan on making a lot of money in the future , and trouble with the IRS is way more than I can stomach. I'm happily paying my 1/3 or whatever it is to Uncle Sam.

how do you play so many tables? i tried playing 3 at once and even then it was too fast paced for me. once in a while i'd get good hands at 2 or 3 of the tables and i'd be frantically clicking, because of the time limit. or if i'm playing more than two SNG tourney's, i can't keep up when there are more than two heads up matches.

i once hit the straight on the river at one table and missed it, because i was playing 3 tables at once. just checked it when i could have gotten paid off.

is it just a matter of adding a table at a time until you're comfortable?

edit: i guess it's worth mentioning i tried to do this on my 1024x768 laptop screen which meant i had to tile the windows on top of each other. i suppose it'd be easier w/ a higher res monitor that can display all the tables at once.

I hate to doubt you but if you are claiming a MA in Math, how could you possibly belive that moving to 9 tables at 10/20 NL is a good idea after a bad run at limit? Basic bank roll management would say otherwise. Were you playing 250/500 limit or something? A smart player would move down in limits when a significant downswing hits in order to protect their bankroll.

Besides, I've never heard of 9 tabling 10/20 NL. One slip and oops!

I'm not claiming an MA in math. I'm a rising junior and hoping to complete the masters by my senior year if everything goes smoothly. My bad run at limit was a -$15,000 downsing (about 600 big bets) at limits ranging from 10/20 to 25/50. I'm quite risk averse, so I was ridiculously overrolled for the games I was playing. This drop was only 1/3 of my total bankroll. It stung a lot, and I was disillusioned about poker for a while, so I took a quarter off and returned to my former hobby - warcraft 3. Anyways, I had a few friends who are better players than I "sweat" me and watch my play for a period of time. They claimed (and I felt) that I was playing well but just facing the bad end of variance. My stats also indicate this. Over a period of about 50,000 hands my went to show down number was average (35ish), but my won at showdown was a miserable 49. Over a block of 10,000 hands I was losing money with AA, KK, and QQ.

I had heard of similar stories of people who play limit hold'em, even an 1800big bet downswing from a solid player. I felt that I had a good grasp of limit and that no limit would only take a short amount of time to pick up. I made the move and quickly moved up in limits from 600 buy in to 1000 buy in to 2000 buy in where I am now comfortably sitting at. Hope that answers some questions.

PS. There are people out there who make an obscene amount from online poker. Stoxtrader is a well known professional poker player. This last year he made over $1 million. Here's a link to his website and the $million screen shot: http://www.stoxpoker.com/node/96. Also, if anyone is out there who is interested in getting started, send me a PM.

You play Razz? You must be a masochist. Rememinds me of a quote I heard from Lederer a while back. " I remember when I first started going to the casino there were always a bunch of old guys off in the corner playing razz. They never looked too happy with life and I think the game had a lot to do with that."

But yeah, I play a little. I actually took the plunge, left my job, and became a full time professional about a week ago. I'm only doing it so I can go back to school, though. Not something I'd recomend for 99% of people. I've been at this a couple years, though and have been making more at this than my day job (which was pretty good), though so...

As far as sites, I prefer Bodog. I've played Party, Pacific, Pokerroom, FT, and a few others that escape me but Bodog is my favorite. The software really sucks and you can only play 3 tables at a time but I still prefer it to any of the others.

Actually if you sign up at pokersourceonline you can get a free $100 bankroll for Partypoker or a $50 bankroll at titan. Basically they give u $75 after u sign up and u need to play like 400 raked hands to unlock the last 25 and then cash out. It's pretty easy to do on the .10/.20 micro limit tables if you multitable. You could then cash out that 100 and take advantage of one of the other deposit bonuses they offer on that site.

I think the only stipulation is you have to be 21 and you've never had a real money account.

Do you know tillerman? There's actually a lot of former WC3 players who went onto online poker and are doing very well at it...
