My question is:

Is Monarchcomputer a good and trustful place to buy hardware or should I stick with newegg?

Are there any other good retailers online that I can consider?

Newegg, Zipzoomfly, Chiefvalue, and Monarch are good retailers. There are many others, but I get most of my stuff from Newegg and Zipzoomfly.

A good place to check out an on-line retailer's performance is Bizrate.com. You can read reviews and see how they rate as compared to other retailers. A couple of other good retailers to conisder are Mwave.com and Tigerdirect.com. Newegg is a solid retailer too.

Try ClubIT as well - I split my big build order between the Egg and ClubIT. Both had great customer support, the shipping was flawless, excellent prices. Matter of fact the only real difference was that the Egg sent me a free T-shirt for Christmas

My big test was whether customer support was available easily by phone and eager to help, both passed with flying colors (ClubIT even followed up later that day to make sure all my questions were answered.)

I'd order from either again without hesitating.

Checked all of them out and Monarch is the one who has the X2 3800+ for under 300$ shipped. I think I am going ot wait and see if they go down even more though.

Thx again for the help!

Monarch is usually really cheap, but they can sometimes take really long to ship, so beware of that. I've had not-so-hot experiences with getting stuff shipped from them, I think one time the item dropped in price pretty sizably before monarch even shipped it.

I would stay away from monarchcomputer. They take extremely long to ship the item without letting you know whats going on.

Also, if you get something defective, their return policy suck. It took them 2 weeks to process my RMA after the day they recieved it.

I hate that store. they bait you with good prices, but if you receive anything from them that is DOA you're sooooooooo screwed. Newegg has always treated me well, and so has Monarch

To each their own I guess...
Personally, I can't stand Newegg, and I've never had a problem with DOA from ZZF. Only thing that was "close" to problematic was an Athlon 775 2000+ or something like that for a friend (turns out the chip was incompatible with the mobo), and we decided to Ebay it instead simply due to time constraints.

Zipzoomfly.com for me as well. Their prices are usually the best around. And Free 2nd day air rocks!

Could that have been your fault? Athlon 2000+ is AMD, 775 is Intel.

go ahead, keep ordering from them. your luck is bound to run out, and then you'll be in for a ZipZoomFly greasing.

Oops, my bad... it was definitely an Athlon 2000+ though. The incompatibility was something along the lines of it being a transition chip or something, if that makes sense? (like Celerons around 1GHz - there was something similar there compatibility-wise; depending on your MoBo determines what processor you need?)

As to if/when my Zipzoomfly "luck" runs out, I'm STILL not EVER going back to Newegg.

Newegg is the STANDARD in online technology shopping experience.

ZZF is good, but their search function pisses me off... doesn't come close to what Newegg can provide. Free 2nd day is nice. Very competitive pricing compared to Newegg.

ChiefValue is a Newegg (ABS) company and they do a good job as well.

Clubit is a newcomer that looks promising.

pagecomputers has done a nice job of delivering me products.

Provantage is another reliable online vendor.

I'm in the purchasing field and have done most of my shopping at those places.
