Israel is an ally. We share some common interests in the region and can work toward some common goals, hence an ally. That said, we don't owe them a thing and shouldn't pay them another dime.
Nor should we pay a dime to the countries that vote against us at the UN. Supposedly 70% of them take our $$ and do. Let 'em starve.

Oh, wait, they're starving already because their leaders diverted the $$.

Probably the guy who repeatedly tried to torpedo the compromise, Netanyahu.

It's funny that even after Iran agrees to a compromise you would keep arguing that.

has Iran accepted Israel's right to exist?

Stated that Israel should not be destroyed?

But lets blame the guy who doesn't want to trust them...

lol

Iran has accepted less sanctions so more countries will pile in doing business with them.
Iran has accepted "snap back" rules that are useless because those countries won't adhere to the rules and the US will have the only sanctions.
Iran has accepted all kinds of inspections that will not be honored...just like always. Buried nuke facilities, ftw.

Works for me. Though, as John Bolton stated, the UN works when the US wants it to and doesn't when we don't. The political theater at the UN is mostly noise unworthy of our attention.

So a nation not being an ally is determined by some opinion poll (in which over half the people respond "yes, they are"?)

LOL.

The Germans set out to end the right to life of those who call themselves Jews, and the Jews now do the same to the Palistenians. It will end the same for each. Doubtless long in the future the Palistenians will do the same to some other group and it will be their turn. People are terrified of seeing who they are, that the other, the monsters they create, are projections of self hate. Violence against others will end only when our hate for ourselves does. So far we can't even acknowledge our own self hate much less how to cure it.

What's happening is that more Americans are rightfully perceiving Israel's peace efforts towards the Palestinians as insincere with ongoing Israeli annexation of Palestinian territory and perpetual occupation as proof of that. They've gone too far for it to be any other way.

They've exploited our friendship to achieve those ends.

So we have to decide if we'll just go along with as we did when we thought we could trust them or if our sense of honesty & fair play won't allow that.

Israel is the brightest spot in the middle east right now. As much as I disagree with a lot of their actions, we can't afford to lose them. They're an ally, but in terms of acting like an Ally I'd put them well below the UK, among other nations.

The president is pragmatic about Israel and you are surprised people don't consider them an ally? Republicans are sheep who only believe what they are told to believe. This makes perfect sense.

Israel overplayed its hand. Despite our current SCOTUS Republicans' best efforts to get Americans to accept their corrupting influence as "free speech," Americans don't accept special interests hijacking our politics, especially foreign special interests. Sheldon Adelson taking attendance and threatening to use his money to go after anyone who doesn't show up to Bibi's speech, that was a nice touch. Reelecting Bibi means the damage to the relationship will keep on happening.

Bullshit. that's all we listen to.

Rare moment of backpeddling?

http://news.yahoo.com/obama-says-weakened-israel-failure-presidency-233248758.html

Washington (AFP) - US President Barack Obama has said that a weakened Israel would be a "fundamental failure of my presidency," affirming solidarity with the long-time ally despite recent differences over the Iran nuclear deal.

"I would consider it a failure on my part, a fundamental failure of my presidency, if on my watch or as a consequence of work that I've done, Israel was rendered more vulnerable," Obama said.

He said he would consider it "not just a strategic failure, I think that would a moral failure," adding that no disagreements between Israel and the United States can break their bond.
...
"What we will be doing as we enter into this deal is sending a very clear message to the Iranians and to the entire region that if anyone messes with Israel, America will be there," he said.

It doesn't matter what Obama says, Israel will continue to lose favor. Every young person will see afresh and without distortion that Israel won't make peace because they want the Palestinian's land and it doesn't belong to them. People have an inborn sense of justice and nobody can do a thing about that. The hatred and fear of the other is rotting Israel from within. So very sad....

Please.

American citizens, even the yoots, by large believe whatever their already chosen media outlet tells them to believe. Even the educated are swayed by a large part.

What matters is if some key media outlets change their tones based on Obama's words, or, did Obama come out with those statements for other reasons.

It's nice you have your strong opinion. But it is wrong for you to (A) believe you speak for other people, and (B) assume your opinions are fact.

Besides, in the grand scheme of morality in the Middle East, while Israel isn't high up in morality, they sure are a helluva lot higher up than most everyone surrounding them. We cannot exactly look to, say, the Saudi's as role models of civilization. So, who do you suggest the U.S. ally with in that region? We want their oil, we want access to their shipping lanes, we have to deal with them. Who do we embrace, oh self-proclaimed most enlightened forum member?

Pretty much this.

Would also add that Israel is taking itself in the opposite direction. Their attitudes and policies are misaligned to America's goals. If they continue down this path, I think the will find themselves increasingly isolated.

No reason America needs to bend over backwards for them. They can take care of themselves, or align to us.
