The morons at HBO are only making 2 seasons of this fantastic show. Sunday the 25th will be the finale. What a shame, they could have easily had an extra 2 seasons rather than trying to stuff so much history into only 22 episodes over 2 seasons.

RIP Rome. You were one of my favorite all time shows.

Well I read a small spoiler at ETWeekly and they said that theres too much to cram into the last episode so people are going to be shocked and saddened by the ending. Also sounds like Antony isn't going to die in the historical accurate way.

well too bad, but i hope they have a big battle sequence with Anthony Beheading Octavious if they are going to go the non-historical route

There isn't a ton to cram into the last episode, Antony dies, Cleopatra kills herself, Octavius becomes Augustus = 200 years of peace in the empire.

Hopefully the DVD's come out soon. I don't get HBO, but watched the first season through netflix. Great series. My favorite behind Band of Brothers.

Same thing they did with Deadwood. Great show, but HBO kills it without giving it time to finish up on its own.

Did you know that together with the BBC, HBO spent like $100mil on the sets for Rome? That's a HUGE investment to just write off like this.

Well... keep in mind that they need to throw at least two more gratuitous sex scenes in there in order to keep it up to HBO standards

No, it led to 200 years of Roman peace (Pax Romana). Rome still waged wars with its enemies, still had to quell rebellions, and still had political unrest.

The pacing is just killing me. In one scene Octavia says she's pregnant. The next scene she has a 2 year old kid running around. Meanwhile, Anthony seems to be just waking up from the opium bender he went on the day before.

Some people (Octavian) has aged 10 years and others haven't at all.

Vorenus and\or Pullo are going to die, that's the sad part i think... Great show, gonna miss it.

I don't think it's writing off so much as stopping the bleeding.

damnit....stupid HBO. I knew this would be the last season, i just didn't know it would be this few episodes, thought they would extend it.

on a side note...wasn't Agrippa really good at military strategy? he doesn't seem like it in the show. Didn't Octavian send him off to fight a lot of wars for him?

Doesn't matter. The larger-than-life, legendary people don't figure into any of it. The show had the intention of tracing the Julius Caeser to the rise of 2nd Triumvirate and Octavians victory over Antony and Cleo. That's it, that's where the action was. The rest of Octavians reign was pretty boring, the rebellions and political unrest were minor things that didn't merit inclusion. Focusing on them after the earth-shaking events that the show covered would have been anti-climactic. Two brilliant season and then a fitting end is far better than 2 brilliant seasons followed by another where Octavians biggest concern was what to have for dinner. It's over, the series is over because the important part of the story is over. There's nothing left to tell.

Cheers for them not trying to over extend it, well done on the series I will be buying the dvds the second it comes in a special edition boxed set.

You think Agrippa's portrayal is inaccurate? Look up Atia. It's nothing less than slander.

And Titus Pullo is getting the opposite treatment. In reality he was a centurian under Caeser. He then surrendered his soldiers to Pompey when faced with a losing position, turned coat and fought for Pompey against Caeser.

You guys should be thankful for 2 seasons. Rome is a fantastic achievement for HBO, but fiscally questionable. I'm glad the execs had enough scruples to realize the show needed to be made, and properly (read: no expense spared).

I don't know about that... Some of the battle scenes looked low budget, and you didn't really see all that much of "Rome" itself.
