IDK .... Coke thought a "new" flavor formula was a good idea back in the day so anything's possible no matter how shortsighted/dumb.
Would these people apparently destroying their own business model with "policy" really surprise you much?
eh ok, it could happen. But even if it does ..
see, the OnlyFans press release *implies* that they are going to ban porn because this choice is PROFITABLE BUSINESS-WISE. And THAT, my friend, is not gonna happen.
What might happen is that when the date comes, they will add adult filters, or a opt-in choice, or a $1 age verification check, or idk, something stupid along these lines that changes nothing.
Let's first consider that the UK wanted to ban free access to porn. The GOVERNMENT made official press statements that "by date Xx, nobdoy will be able to access porn without using a credit card first" and then they saw that it was practically impossible to implement because a machine-description of what porn *is* does not exist, and also there is a huge damnd for porn, and considering that it is a revenue-generating vice, the amount of social harm is minimal, compared to practically anything else = smoking, drinking, drugs. (and also nobody actually believes that 14yo kids do not want to see porn)
So it just went away. Nobody mentioned it anymore and it just disappeared as if nothing had happened.
Also, OnlyFans banning porn can mean anything. Banning penetration? Banning full nudity? It can also mean banning "promoting as porn", i mean, YouTube bans porn, but ..
i don't want to get a ban so i will not post a link, but it took me less than 5 seconds to find a video that is literally a spread out, fully nude and fully visible vagina getting waxed, ON YOUTUBE, because "it's not porn". It's "educational".
The only thing taht remains is OnlyFans banning porn fully, because of some weird belief that the ethics of their platform are being misused, sort of what Twitch has pathetically and inefficiently tried doing, thinking that their IP will improve in value once the content on their platform goes in line with the ethics behind the brand.
They could do this and completely crash & burn, but likely it's not gonna happen.
They probably did an initial case study and the result was "we must ban porn" after which they put out a press release, used the feedback to that to do a projection, and now are considering how to get from point A (where they are now) to point B ("banning porn") WITHOUT ACTUALLY BANNING PORN.
Keep in mind that OnlyFans is just the marketplace; the vendors have zero problem shifting
en-masse to another platform, and i'm sure there are already other platform owners praying to the virgin mary that OnlyFans commits this colossal blunder.
