while looking at the 700mhz deal at onvia, I found this one:

P3-733 FCPGA 133mhz bus. RETAIL BOX according to the onvia help, most are cb0 stepping.

Processor: $243.77
Coupon ($25)
Pointclick rebate ($21.87)
Free Shipping(!)
Total: $196.90

I bought two (two orders, two coupons). They're in stock, so they should be here by the end of the week. we'll see if I get the cb0 stepping or not. I consider this a sweet deal since I was getting ready to pay for these at $325 a piece for OEM.

Linkage right here:
http://www.onvia.com/usa/products/index.cfm?Task=ViewProduct&IDCatalog=2433303

and to the moderators, sorry about asking for coupons before

this topic based on the original 700 mhz deal here:

I think the 700 E is the bettter overclocker though. So if you do overlcock then u get more for your money with the 700E. BUt obviously with all these orders Onvia might be wiped out heeheh. BUt not a bad deal at all if you just looking for a fast CPU.

I hear ya on the overclocking, but I am looking for nothing more than a few good chips to run at spec. I just got myself the new Microstar Dual FCPGA motherboard, and was looking for a few good p3 CuMine's to run on its 133mhz bus. these fit the bill (as long as they're cb0 or later), and for less than I was gonna pay for the 667s (OEM). bummer is that I just got some golden orbs to put on the chips before I found these, so i either have to leave the fans as be or try and pry them off

UPDATE (to nack's update):
my need for the cb0 stepping arose from this review:

http://www.hardwarezone.com/php/pcodes/reviews.php3?_di=2&_aid=2000-07-11+01%3A04%3A16

which says anything older than cb0 just won't do SMP (at least according to this review, which was my main reason for getting two chips . Total coolness to the overclockers out there, but I myself am an SMP freak more than an OCer. But smp or OCer, we both need the cb0 lovin'

The 733 runs on a 133 MHz bus (5.5x multiplier X 133 bus= 733). That means that to overclock it, you would have to run it on a bus FASTER than 133MHz. Very possible, but only by a few MHz, and only if you have really good RAM. IF your RAM and other components will dance, you might possibly get 5.5X150=825MHz out of it. The problem will be with your memory and other components. You can probably get the 825 out of the chip, other components willing, whether it is cbo stepping or not. The 700s are locked at a 7.0X multiplier, instead of a 5.5X multiplier. Hence, the 700s are supposed to run at 7X100=700, and the 733s are supposed to run at 5.5X133=733. This is the reason people are buying the 700s rather than the 733s. It is VERY likely, that if you get a cbo stepping chip in a 700, that you can run it at 7.0X133=933. That said, you got a great price on the 733, and overclocking isn't for everyone.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

UPDATE: I guess we hit the post button only a few seconds apart. I'm very happy to see that you are not looking to over clock, and are just looking for a few good chips at a great price. You got one hell of a deal. Also, if you are just running them at spec, I would just use the retail coolers and save the money by not buying the orbs. It also really doesn't matter if you get cbo or not, for the levels to which those chips could be overclocked on current boards. Congrats.

Thanks,

pointclick is a service of sorts that gives consumers rebates when they buy products rom affiliated shops. onvia happens to be one of those shops. you have to sign up for pointclick's service (if you do, use me as a referral (email address is in profile), it'll help me out a bit)(*note to moderators, don't kill me for this one )
they can be found here:
http://www.pointclick.com

the coupons that other posters refer to are internet coupons that you can find on various tech sites out there. the one that gave me my two working coupons was:
http://www.techbargains.com

go there and then look for the coupons section with Onvia in it. the coupons are numeric codes that you punch in at checkout time. after you make the purchase, you then go to pointclick, log into your account, and tell them you want cash back for your purchase. you then supply them with various things such as the amount, the number that was assigned to you for your order, and the purchase date. after that, you then forward them a copy of your receipt, and await confirmation from them. they periodically send out checks, after you hit a certain amount. so basically, savings now, and then money back later with the two

Thx for the link. I had not read that review. Looks like you DO need cBO after all. Good luck with your SMP setup. I did the SMP thing with Celeron 366/550s. It was fun, but I think that a pure 933MHz would be more what I need (and can afford right now) if I can pull it off with my old BH6 (my PRE-smp board). If I do HAVE to buy a new board, maybe I will just get a dual board, another CBO 700 and go for dual 933.

Nack: totally agreeable. although with these prices, i got the board and chips for under $600. not bad at all. the only thing I am wary of is the via chipset in that I don't have much experience with it, so i don't have 100% trust in it (yet). problem was, there just is no intel chipset right for me right now (in terms of price/ features). hopefully there will be in my next upgrade cycle (then again, i may like the via so much, I'll get another one ). heh, just think, dual pentium 4s (isn't it great that as soon as we get something, we crave the next big thing?)

treetop: I ordered it from a local distributor up here in New Hampshire. he can get me the board in about a week. (mine comes in on monday, supposedly, ordered on wednesday). contact me if you want to get contact info for him (email's in the profile). he says he has no prob getting them (he's apparently one of MSI's premiere distributors in the US) hope this helps

The onvia coupons seem to me to be American Express coupons. I tried punching in the generic one from techbargains, but Onvia labeld this coupon somthing like AMEX Coupon.

So, I didn't use it. Have you had the same experience?

Ckelly5: Good find, I plan on running that same exact board/config . If possible, could you email me the distributor info? I've been having problems finding a local place (central Massachusetts) that carries MSI boards.

My email is joe@youknowwhat.com

batti: sorry 'bout that. my profile is enabled now. you can contact me now.

jjsimas/ Rambler: i used both those coupons from TB from between 6:54 and 7:23 yesterday. one of the coupons may have been overused from this and the 700mhz deal that everyone was doing yesterday, and may have expired. they worked fine for me, eventhough they say AMEX (I used Visa, as i don't think that onvia even accepts AMEX ). both of them worked for me though. if you had probs, I dunno what to say.

Cylon: I'll be sending you the details in a bit
