Onyxia yells, "Ding!"

So my guild tried her for the first time with 35 last night. Seven times. Each time, we had no problem whatsoever with phase 1 & phase 2. Each time, phase 3 whupped us badly. Phase 3 starts at 35% health, and the lowest we got her was 27%, for some perspective on just how badly we did. This is the guide we're using.

What are we doing wrong? Basically... phase 3 starts, we all get feared over the cracks and die horribly. We have 1-3 dwarf priests (had two on last night) but fear ward has a 30 second cooldown and onyxia can fear every 6 seconds. Regardless, with everyone taking ridiculously huge damage from the lava (and when she turns after fearing the MT, from her fire breath as well) I simply don't see how it's possible?

phase 1 and phase 2 = cake. Good job on getting people to listen though, that's the hardest part.
Second hardest part is getting a good FR warrior and knows how to create and keep arggo.

Your MT is taking too much damage that means people have to heal him more instead of looking out for themselves. IIRC, lava only does ~1k damage if you get feared into it. Plenty to recover with if you don't have to immediately heal your MT after a fear.

Also, start farming for: http://www.thottbot.com/?i=5390 or at LEAST http://www.thottbot.com/?i=7619. This http://www.thottbot.com/?i=26327# also helps if you can afford it. And don't use these until you can get to phase 3 with everybody up.

Have the MT save shield wall and last stand for the start of phase 3, also have him drink a greater fire protection potion when she lands. No priests or druids can heal him for the first ~5 seconds as he has to regain aggro, pallies only. Make sure he has a fear ward on him before phase 3 starts, and have another one ready to cast immediately after the first fear.
Make sure everyone is in positions on the sides before Onyxia lands. Get up on the walls to avoid the lava splashes. If you can get the transition from phase 2-3 down, its cake. We kill her in less than 20 minutes from zone in,

Thanks for the advice guys, I'll relay it to my guild & see what the consensus is (I'm just a lowly rogue). Of course it's a learning experience, but I think part of it may have been that a) our secondary tank, who's a great guy, knows what he's doing, etc - but isn't the MT voice we're used to on ventrilo - was the MT for the attempts - and he was having mic problems

Nice work on getting as far as you did. I ran ZG for the first time this evening with a craptastic PUG. We finally downed the Snake Boss after 6 tries. The group wasn't really that bad, but the leader was an extra-large douche when it came to organizing and giving orders.

I just wanted the experience for when I ran our own guild through it. We're still way too small to think about Onyxia yet.

When she's getting ready to land, people need to be making their way to the ledges to hop on before her first fear. Most people practice getting onto the ledges in phase 1 while the MT is building agro. The only people that should be down on the ground is your melee, and that's after your MT gets a chance to build agro.

Also, have you made sure that no one other than the MT is breaking fear? I've seen people (warriors) break fear to keep from running into the lava, only to watch her turn to them and kill half that section as a result. Remember, if your people are on the ledge, they won't run into the lava.

Thanks for the tips guys, dropped her on the second try tonight with 31. Having non-melees on the ledge helped a bunch. :thumbsup:
