California is a socialist nanny state, bad place to be anyway. Only bad guys are allowed to own guns. We should send this thread to Czar Feinstein and see what she would have to say about this.

vood0g:

That would be a very bad logic mistake. If two guys walk up to me in a parking lot I don't care if they are thug looking, black, white, whatever. I'm either going to get out of there ASAP or take a preemptive stance and prepare for confrontation at worst case. Either way, situational awareness and being prepared (armed) are vital; it would be a fatal mistake to judge potential muggers on their clothing or skin color.

Stories like this always bring up a fantasy of mine. I'd like to purchase an old ocean liner and convert it to a floating prison, then park it in international waters. Anything after that you'd need to use your imagination as I would deny any existence of it. Only thing holding me back is funding, personnel and logistics, but not my sincerity.

If I were going to rob a bank, rob someone on the street, or for that matter commit any crime that I wanted to have a chance at getting away with, I damn sure wouldn't be dressed all thugged out while doing it, because people expect and remember that. I would be dressed in some inconspicuous clothing that would allow me to blend back into being a normal member of society as easily as possible without having too many features that would stand out in the memory of my victims or onlookers.

the money was no big hit. it was just extra cash laying around. i posted previously that we do own a gun. a .50 caliber desert eagle. http://www.magnumresearch.com/Expand.asp?ProductCode=DE50 we have it in a brief case with 5 clips around it, we got it as a gift . all with hallow-tip bullets. it was under my dad's bed in the room. but he was not willing to pull it out with my sister in his way and with a gun to her head. now if the dude had come in, and he had no one with him. you better believe me or my dad would have 'popped a cap' on that fool.

exdeath: you're right of course, that you should always be prepared. but i know i will always be "extra" cautious around certain groups that i had bad experiences with.

nan0bug: not sure where you're going with yours, but how many street mobbings, killings, beatings have you seen, heard, or read about that occurred when the perp was decked out in an armani suit, but rather they were all thugged out...

i dont think i've ever seen a nicely dressed perp on the 10 o'clock news.

you sir need a hobby. something nice like model ship building.

SinNisTeR: good luck to you and your family, especially your sister. This was truamatic for everyone especially her. I have been robbed at gunpoint in a not so great area off the sidewalk late at night. I acted against it and took a .22 to the small of my back. Still faught him off but something in your home around your fam is totally different. You're almost paralyzed to act against it due to fear of your loved ones getting harmed. Most people talkin sh!t about doing something dont understand the consequances of the actions. As well as I have been trained, I must have been smokin some crack to think I could move faster then someone twitching a gun trigger. This is REAL LIFE and not some Matrix movie. Even if victims are armed like the NRA would want, do they really want to have a shoot out and take a 50/50 chance or worse at losing their life or a worse, a family member?

anyways. Hope they catch the waste of oxygen who did this.

btw I read further: you would have one shot with that .50 cal DE. It recoils like an angry bull. Anyone not used to shooting it wouldnt have a chance of getting a relatively quick accurate 2nd shot. And like I said above, you generally dont want to have a shoot out if it can be avoided. Most guns used in robberies are never fired unless they feel threatened. Cops preach never to fight back when going up against an armed assailant. They dont say this because they want a bunch of easy victims, they say it because most people end up shot when they try to fight back. Your father did the right thing. Again, its not a movie, this is real life and nobody can dodge a bullet.

The Desert Eagle 50AE is quite possibly the worst pick for a self-defense gun with a bore bigger than .25" Especially if someone has only shot it a few times. How many times has your dad taken it to the range, and how many rounds did he put through it?

This is not CounterStrike. Bullets go through walls, and one hit in the upper thigh can be lethal (your femoral artery is not something you want a hole in). 50 caliber bullets tend to do that better than most. Put pressure on the bottom of the magazine and welcome to the wonderful world of jamming. I can shoot a 45 ACP and put the rounds on target faster than most people can do so with 9mm, and having fired a Desert Eagle in 50AE I can say that for someone holding a Desert Eagle 50AE, a quick (aimed) follow up shot is a pipe dream.

Your cold shot (first shot of the day) is the most important one to be able to hit your target quickly and accurately, because in real life you might only have the time to put one shot into your target. Shooting a gun like the Desert Eagle 50AE, one that you havent spent significant time at the range with, inside your house, is f***ing stupid.

At a minimum, if you are still planning to use this instead of another gun in a SHTF scenario (even though almost any 9mm would be preferably, IMO, and you seem to have implied there being one in the house), take it to the range. Fire off all five magazines. Repeat frequently.

ya, i dont think my dad would ever use the .50cal, he just doesnt have the experience to use it. usind it would have to depend on the scenario.

I'm glad your dad did what he did. It's just money, and your lives aren't worth it. Better to give the guy your stuff and get him out so all of you are all safe.

Sorry that happened to you. I know people that were robbed at gunpoint. Not pretty. Stays with you a long time.

I am curious where all the gun lovers are. "If you were armed, you could have taken him down and insured total safety of your family..." HAHAHAHAH

If you're armed but inexperienced or your family is in danger, who cares? Give the thief his goods and protect your family! Fvck the guns, it isn't worth the risk!!!

Thankfully you're all alive and ok. Stuff is stuff and no amount of money could buy ya back
