Realized the trusty ole E53 X5 4.6is is getting a little long in the tooth. Over the last 4+ years it has been rock solid and reliable. The only problem, pretty much expeceted, has been a transmission replacemement under warranty at around 40k miles. Heck, even drove with the toasted torque converter for a week. Other than that, it has not been in the shop for anything other than routine maintenence. Since everything was priced in, I haven't had to pay a penny for upkeep.
Anyway, after poking around the offerings on the market, I settled on the new 4.8i. Placed my order and dropped a deposit. Barring any issues, I should be getting the new ride in early January.
I know I am going to hear the usual.
"You should have gotten a FX/MDX/Q7/ML/GL/Jeep/Cayenne/FJ/Range Rover because..." or "SUVs suck. You could have gotten a 5-series/E-class/Impreza/A6 because..."
Well, I test drove a few of them wasn't impressed by any of them. Plus the underground garage in my condo complex has some size restrictions with height being a major issue. Just last week a guy in his new FJ Cruiser needed help removing the roof rack because it could not clear a gate. I also need a vehicle that can handle New England winters but is not a serious rockpounder.
Tuffgirl: Remember RT16 in Wellesley becomes one lane in each direction and the speed limit is 35MPH. Resist the temptation to do 85MPH again.
