Hmmm... I ordered (backordered) mine on march 12 and I have yet to get a order confirmation e-mail...
In the "order recieved" e-mail, they said it'll be at most, two business days before they give you an e-mail with a customer number, order status, and tracking info... anyone have any input on this situation?

Kraid2xd -- I had a similat experience this week. Ordered a couple of 160s via the small-business 10% discount email + the 15% periphs discount on the website. Since it was through small business I could not place the order without giving a business name. I made one up that was "too cutesy." So, they sat on the order. I got the first order received email and then nothing. It took me close to 3 hours to get it resolved. Nobody wanted to take responsibility for it and they kept handing me off back and forth between different departments of home accounts (because the order was placed through home account) and departments of the small business section. At one point I was asking a CSR what the status of my order was and he keep saying "How should I know?" Like who else is going to know? I probably made 2 loops through the entire system, talked to about 7 people when finally I found a nice woman in the small-business online order section. She was going to blow me off too until I told her to use my "real" business name (that of my website) and then she was able to replace the order at the same price as before and even discounted the next day shipping. Moral of the story is that if you don't follow up, Dell will just let your order rot deep in the bowels of their godless computer system. Also, if the small business section is involved you can't call them past 4:30pm EST, they are closed otherwise.

Dammit,... I shouldn't of put "N/A" on my business name... that was rather stupid... oh well, I can always call them and update my "company info" with my mom's office (She's the owner of a office suite complex rental company... that small enough business for ya?)

I didn't really think they would check these things... hope I can still get my order processed...

Bwahaha!!! After hassling their customer sales reps over what does and does not define a small business, I was able to :

A) Get my order processed through and shipped within 10 min.

B) Get it TAX free, which comes down to $173 per drive since I ordered 2.. I don't know why, but hey, bigger discount for me!

Thanks, JahWren, for the info...

Why not go through the home site? Automatic 20% off at check out for Dell branded drives.
Search for 120GB

Two come up. 1 is $235 and the other is $277.
What's the difference? They are both 120gb 8mb drives.

Are you guys sure these aren't crippled in any way from an actual WD drive?
Like some video cards are when manufacturers send them to Dell, Compaq, etc.

These are RETAIL WD drives my friend. And 235-20% doesn't beat the 179 I paid to have it shipped to me...

BTW they say its out of stock when I ordered on the 12th or so, but mine shipped on the 13th and will be here on the 21st. Looking at pricewatch, which shows 226 for oem plus tax for the 8 megger, its a steal.

I can't find anything that says retail. In fact all retail drives from WD that I have seen have RTL in the product name.
Example WD1200BB $204, WD1200BBRTL $277.

And $179 is great. But most of us have to pay tax and make up a business name, or call if there is problems with not really having a business and lying.
At $5 more at the home site, for no hassle and no coupon codes seems like a good deal.

Try this: If it works somewhere in the details will say its retail.

Just make something up for business name - no one cares - they just want to sell you somehting. And 179 is including tax but free shipping. I believe its vice versa with the home store.

A little advice tho... try to at least make up a realistic-sounding business name/info if you want to spare yourself a potential hassle... I put "n/a" as my business name and that got my order delayed 5 days...

Take care people

Nope- couldn't find anything saying retail. Meaning its just another oem drive with 1yr warranty.
And the home site also has free shipping.

Here's the retail drive. Notice the RTL
Retail WDJB
I called Dell and according to the rep, the Dell branded drive, the one at $277 has a three year warranty, the $235 is one year

the warranty on both versions is the same 3 years from western digital .you can go online and check the warranty status for your drive (enter the model # and serial #) .

Sigh... hit my link, hit the "tech specs" tab, scroll down to packaging type... Retail is retail.

It is NOT retail. How do I know? I have it in my computer, it's a bare drive. However, it still has a three-year warranty, I don't know where you came up with the one-year warranty. Maybe on the DELL-branded drives, but definitely NOT on this one.

I ordered at 5:50pm EST and I got my two confirm emails at 7:21pm EST. My ship date for 120GB drive 8mb cache is "on or before March 25th"

I assume this hard drive works in all PCs, not just the following:???

"Description: Hard Drive; 120GB Ultra ATA, 7200RPM, for Dell Dimension 4300/8200"

Thanks for the input

LOL... that's for the non-technical upgrader, so as not to confuse them. By virtue of finding this site, you're no longer among them.

Unless of course, everyone other than Dell suddenly stopped conforming to IDE/ATA standards... but hey, you never know.

Thanks for the deal. When I ordered this drive from dell a few days ago it was Out of Stock. Yet, sure enough, Mr. UPS arrived yesterday with a shiny, new 1200JB for me. I cannot wait to install it into my box on Friday (although I do not look forward to all of the reformatting and installing I will have to do).

Thanks for the awesome deal,
ChunkyBarf
