OOS again...

Cheap "Intel" based boot drive (slower than the Intel drives through). No TRIM (yet).

Click me!

Thanks to Selma Bot at SD.

By the way, even though slower than the Intel drive, it still shines in random read and write performance.

Click me for review conclusions (16 page review)

Now updateable to INTEL firmware with TRIM:

Someone got the Intel firmware working on the Kingston drive:

http://www.hardforum.com/showpost.php?p=1035247675&postcount=353

Doesn't say how yet, but I guess he'll post that soon. TRIM is enabled

Seems like a decent deal.

There is a 64 gb kingston with significantly reduced read speeds, marginally better write speeds, and only like $30 more. 24gb more space for $30 isn't bad at all.

I figure that the best part of an SSD is not the massive read or write speeds but the latency compared to a regular hard disk so it seems like a better idea no?

If you factor in bing cashback etc it should come in close to $120.

Are the 64GB versions based on Intel chipset or something else (JMicron or Indilinx?)?

Edit: Looks like the 64GB version uses a Samsung controller, not the Intel controller like the 40 and 80GB models, but the price seems quite nice for a 64GB model.

Edit #2: Looks like it includes the drive as well as external USB enclosure. It's also $104.99 shipped AR at Newegg (minus 1% FW or Bing cash back).

Click me (Newegg link).

DOH! I would have SOOOO bought some for that price. Heck, I would have bought several of them.

You post a post just like this in every thread that I make in Hot Deals!

Should I start sending you a PM?

Actually, seems like a Jmicron controller, so meh. Too bad, though tbh, still a good price overall. It's just about as fast as a normal drive except a much lower latency generally. Still if I'm paying $2 a gig, I'd still go for something better.

After reading around, there are actually two versions of the drive...the V and the V+. The V apparently has the JMicron controller while the V+ has the Samsung. The $104.99 version at Newegg was the V

This one appears to be the V+ with Samsung controller (notice the better ratings lol)

Phone calls work too.

So, the next best deal is the Vertex for $95... $5 more and 25% smaller.

Maybe I'll buy that for my wife's computer... a dedicated WoW drive. :awe: It takes around 15GB before addons, so the size would be perfect.

Nahhh, I need to hold out for a deal. :sneaky: I know that I can get the 40GB Intel/Kingston for $85-90 and the 80GB Intel for $200 and 160GB for $400.

Edit: nevermind...searching revealed that this promotion is dead ...It's dead Jim!

Someone at HardOCP mentioned if you pay via Amazon's Payphrase, you get 10% cash back...making this (combined with Bing) under $80!!!

Hotness!

Even if you bought two and RAID-0'd them, it should be a pretty cost effective solution and help alleviate some of the write speed issues.

So I signed up for the email stock notification. Check my email today and... jumped over to Buy.com and indeed was in stock. Went through Bing, then added 5 to cart (thought about it for several minutes actually, but then decided I can always unload extra ones at cost). Went through checkout. DOH! Buy.com no longer accepts Discover card? Went through Paypal. DOH! Discover card on file at Paypal wasn't updated with new expiration date. Edited card details, then went back to Buy.com and checked out... DOH! Says insufficient quantity, only 3 left. So, I ordered the 3 that were left, and the order went through.

Sorry guys. I can say for certain that I was the one responsible for them running OOS.

Now to do some research on running them in RAID, optimal partitioning, etc. I'm thinking of putting two of them (or all three) into a monster upgrade for my wife's system. She currently has an overclocked Q9400 with 8GB RAM running Vista64 with a VelociRaptor and a GTX 260. Been collecting parts for an upgrade to a Core i7 with 6GB RAM, probably upgraded to Windows 7. Wanted SSDs for storage and now I've got them. She just needs it for Windows and WoW (alright, also L4D/L4D2 and a few other things). :awe: Gonna put in one of those Asetek liquid cooling kits from SVC and will swap out her GTX 260 with a GTX 285 H2OC. Only thing left is to figure out how to cool the motherboard chipset. Got a chipset block, but the stock chipset heatsink has a heatpipe running to the VRMs.

Oh yeah, I'm also wanting to run the radiator externally on a stand with long tubes so it can be pointed at her feet. Woman + Winter = cold feet. I figure that an overclocked Core i7 with an X58 chipset and an overclocked GTX 285 can rectify that situation if anything can.

Ummmm, I'm gonna need your Wifes cell #.....you got problems!

You just bought a 120gb...which MADE me buy the 80gb Intel.
Now, this could put me over the top on this 40gb for my "spare" kitchen laptop!

STOP, for both our sake!

Hope you went through Bing for the 7%!

I'm wondering about this. Had to use Paypal because Buy.com no longer accepts Discover card. So far (two purchases, bought a UPS as well) my purchases which were clicked through from Bing have not shown up in my Bing account.

Did you take a screen shot while going through Bing? :hmm:

You know, over the past week I've been playing email tag with the Bing.com Cashback customer service because I didn't get cashback after using PayPal on a recent purchase from TigerDirect.
