Update 11:00am EST -- Possibly OOS. Keep checking back.

Logitech is selling their infamous x-540 5.1 speaker set (Dented Box) for $44 after promo codes.

http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/promotional_items/devices/5704&cl=US,EN

Promo Code 1 - woot_30110
Promo Code 2 - MIR15

Comes out to $44.19 with free shipping for me.

(FYI - "Dented Box" means just that. The products are covered by Logitech's full warranty, and the only issue with the item is the box it comes in will not be in pristine condition.).

Thanks, gotta love these Logitech deals. For some reason they hit me for 0.44 cents tax which is way less than my state's tax rate.

It's showing Out Of Stock for me.

Codes worked, though. Looked like a nice deal.

What is the deal with these "dented" box deals?
How much does it cost to make a new box? Why not create a new box and sell it at normal retail price? Is the box really that expensive?
It's just the outside box that's dented and NOT the product itself right?

Or is this just a way of them not trying to admit they're not selling enough publicly?
Or are they using this to sell outdated products and products that are no longer being manufactured? If so, then that would make sense.

Logitech is one of my most trusted companies but I just don't understand this from a business prespective unless it's the last reason I listed.
Dented box...what's next? torn box? ripped box? hole in box?

IMO, it's like "scratch and dent" stores. People get a product, they return it, Logitech repackages it and sells it as a "dented box" item. But I think it includes far more than just refurbished items. Anytime something falls of a pallet, anytime the box rips in packaging, etc. Logitech does sell some expensive equipment. How many times do you think, upon delivery of said equipment, the customer has second thoughts? Or because the box got dented they just ship it back?

Many people have ordered from a dented box special and have gotten items in pristine condition. It might be that they just have a surplus of specific items and they're trying to get rid of them. All I know is, the items are covered by the same warranty as if I were buying new, and they're often 50%+ off retail price, so I'm not complaining.

got a couple mice on the last one of these deals... the boxes were new, sealed, but had scuffs like they got munched by the conveyor belt...

when i lived in ca it was like when we'd go for a drive up hw126 and the farms sell the 'uglies', odd shaped and oversized avocados and artichokes, for a buck a bag... they were fine, just not pretty enuf for stores...

I haven't gotten a cancellation yet. But then again, I haven't gotten a shipping notice either.

Still shows as in processing. Called today, and they said they're backordered, but my order is apparently still good.

I got mine Wednesday, but I ordered it before it made front page on slickdeals. The box isn't in the best of shape-- one corner is completed folded in and there was a hole maybe the size of a quarter in the box lid with some of the cardboard munched up, but the speakers are in brand new condition. Couldn't have asked for a better speaker deal.

Good luck everyone. Hope you guys get your backordered dented boxes haha...

Haha, ordered on March 1 but it was out of stock. They kept my order, though, and it just shipped yesterday (April 9). Wasn't expecting it to sip at all!

The way things like this work is the factory turns out the production run and that is it. There are no extra boxes or extras. Once the factory has completed the production run it is on to the next product.

Logitech can either re-sale these items or trash them. Companies generally have a rule that if the original factory seal is broken the product cannot be sold as new, doesn't matter how it happened. If you open the box, peak inside and close it back, it is now a refurb.

The set I got had a box that was barely dented (speakers fine). Frankly the box damage was so minor I wouldn't have thought anything of it if I got it in a brick and mortar store.

Personally I think this is mostly a way of Logitech liquidating some overstock to make their balance sheet look better in the short run. It's a win-win situation for the buyer and Logitech.
