Actually, everything at Microcenter is 20% off, even CPUs. So, you can find a lot of resonable priced item at this discount. Their normal price are too damn high, it is good to see they relized that.

agreed, I never buy from MC except in a pinch, but this price is unbelieveable. I would have thought it would have been $364...

What's the price at the B&M? If it's the same for $264, with 20% off = $211 -$65 Rebate = $146?...just curious
....whoops, this is the price($264) after the 20%, sorry...

Think it would be possible to price-match this at Circuit City or anywhere else to avoid the rebate?

That's pretty hot because of the 8mb buffer. However, won't some people run into problems because it's over the 137 GB limit?

You should have no problem if you use ata133 enabled mobo or pci card(I think it is included in the box, like 160 and 180 gig)), and you might tweak your Winxp w/sp1.

There are cheaper than $1 per GB solutions... 160GB for $119 = about 75 cents per GB (25% less cost per GB).

Western Digital 160GB 7200RPM w/ 8MB cache for $119. This comes with an Ultra 100 controller card.

Well the 1600JB deal at outpost.com is OOS, and for some of us Fry's is way too far away. $200 for the 2000JB is still an excellent deal I'm just wondering if this model comes with a controller card like the 1600JB to overcome the 137GB barrier

Doesn't seem to be on the CircuitCity website, and BestBuy might do it considering the rebate type (if its a MIR Manuf. or Store MIR)

Edit: Looks like its a store rebate so BestBuy should PM this.

Just an FYI, their website has made the description wrong.

It is ATA100, NOT ATA133. (informed by Western Digital)

If it's ATA100, then how do you get the full 200GB? Won't the PC only recognize the first 137GB without an ATA133 interface?

Went to the Best Buy on Clyborn in Chicago, they did not have this (or any 200gb) in stock.

Oh well...

You don't need ATA-133 for 137GB+ drives, all that needs to be done is a BIOS update to an IDE controller to make it support 48-bit LBA. Even my dead old ASUS A7V (circa Summer 1999) has a newer BIOS that enables the onboard controller to recognize 137GB+ drives.

There's even a Windows 2k/XP hack, shown in detail here: Link

So it should be done in both bios and Windows registry, or one of them?

Waaaaaaaaa, we bought 10 of these on 12/18 from microcenter.com for $360 each . It's going to be a pain returning them all and rebuying ...

The BIOS doesn't matter since it doesn't matter whether the BIOS doesn't read past the 137GB mark since the boot info should be near the front of the drive....all that matters is Windows seeing the full amount. Time was when Windows got its info from the BIOS, now it just keeps all the hardware info on the hard drive.

Actually, Microcenter is VERY good with PMs and returns out to 30 days. Just PM them to themselves and they'll refund you the difference - you don't even need the credit card (but you DO need the receipt) you used on you, since they keep all the info on their computers. I DOUBT you'll be able to get 10 65 dollar rebates, though. The 20% and 23 IRs probably won't be a problem, though.

Hell, you don't even need the product - just the receipt. I've just brought the receipt in on occasion and they have no problem with PMing.
