I called staples 1-800 number and was credited back $10 to my account. Paid me $10 to have a usb 2.0 card. This is a hot deal.

I just went to the Staples in Farmington Hills, MI and they placed the order for me, since they were out of stock. Price was $39.94 + 6% tax. It has free delivery and should show up on Monday. Not a bad deal all in all. You may want to go into the store and ask if they will order it for you, as they did for me. Enjoy.

Just a heads up, I am still waiting for my rebate check from a 40 gb drive. It has benn in status "Your rebate is valid and your reward is scheduled for fulfillment. Please allow 10 to 15 days for mail delivery. Thank you. " for like, 2 months

Even when your rebate has been sent out, the status remains that way. You should call up rebateshq and ask them what's up. Might even get it reissued.
When they say 10-15 days, it comes in that time frame, unless your mailman lost it.

I ordered my card online yesterday (28th). However, when I go to Staples to check on the status of the ORDER, not the rebate, it says: Processing. Any idea what this means? Have they not actually entered in my order? The rebate says that purchase must be made b/w 28th-30th, so does processing mean they haven't actually gotten to my order and haven't printed my receipt? Any suggestions would help. Thanks.

Thanks! I did it too. I doubt if they meant this to happen.

Well you've two choices: either you can wait until you need one and then pay for it, or you can get it now for free and keep it until you need it. A no brainer if you can afford to be out the $40 for 8 weeks.

I only bought one because it's far. I've already got two 2 port cards and another unopened 5 port. Even if I don't need it, I'm sure someone I know will.

I tried to hunt one down today. None in stock and I could have used it for the External HD Casing I have which utilizes the USB 2.0 interface. Oh well I dropped by CompUSA next door and found that they are having a blow-out on technical books. I bought two Microsoft Press books. MFC reference for VC++, and Training for NT 4.0 Administration.

If you ordered this 11/29 for $49.99 then ring Staples (1-800-3STAPLE) and get them to knock $10 off. This means you get the card PLUS $10.

No point in getting $10 back if you used the 10 off 50 coupon since the CSR will most likely tell you that if they knock off 10, you are below $50 which voids the coupon.

Um, might be me, but that sku is showing 49.99 still, not 39.99.
Checked the local flyer, didnt see the card at all. Guess they changed the price back?

Pothead,

you are absolutely correct...I was stoopid enuff to ask about the coupon and she told me she would have to remove it. I just added a pack of Maxell DVD+R for 14.99 (they have a $10 giftcard MIR) to bring total back over $50. So, a USB 2.0 card, paper clips and a 5 pack dvd+r for ~4.95 + a $10 giftcard aint that bad!!!!

Now another bit of info about this.....I picked another one up at a local staples that rang for $39.99. The cashier put everything in the bag including my receipt...there was no rebate form printing out! So I asked if I could get one. The cashier went straight to the store manager for help..I thought, this can't be good!! Well I know this manager fairly well and he's a good guy and has always done everything he could to get me the best deal. He comes over and he explains that the only rebate available on those cards is a combo rebate if you purchase it with an external Maxtor drive...he then showed me the ad. It was there. He told me that the price adjustment from 49 to 39 was made specifically for this deal. We go to an online terminal and he brings up the rebate center...shows me the rebates for the combo. While in there I showed him the plain old 40 dollar rebate which we will use for this deal and he was quite surprised!! He still insists this is a mistake but wished me good luck. Just so everyone knows...I'm not saying that anyone is right or wrong. Great deal if all works out.

If you used a coupon,I wonder if it'll be approved as rebate form says usual can't be used in connection with any other offer, promotion, etc.

We'll see.

I remember an Anandtech saying "Staples is suck".

Now I understand it.

I ordered the item.

No emails, no calls.

I check my order status and the Maxtor card is not listed - only the small item I added to reach the coupon minimum.

So, I called and the phone rep knew nothing, and then checked with someone who told her that the item is out of stock. They offered to submit a back-order for the item, but it would not qualify for the rebate, since it would be a different order with a December date.

The phone rep also tells me that the small item would have shipped anyway with no coupon.

Wonderful notification, eh?

Even the web site says nothing about what happened to the item or the order.

Now I will ignore all Anandtech threads with "Staples" no matter how seemingly good.

I was left a message saying that there was a "problem" with the paper clip order. They said the card is still being delievered, but the paper clips would not. They also spefically said that the coupon would be be valid!

Maybe they are actually wising up to how much money they are losing on sending out just the paper clips!

My packing slip had had 2 copies.
I used one of the two - circled the date and the card on it, and submitted that.

I still dont know how people are getting 10 dollars back, as I dont see the card for less than the 49.99 price....

for tax, tho, I'm not bitching too much - usb 2.0 rocks

The day after I ordered it the price on the Staples website went down to $39.99. Even though it was OOS they still knocked $10 off when I asked for it. I had used a $10 off $50 coupon which they let stand.

It seems the deal is back - the card is FAR this week at Staples. Even though the ad gives an impression is free when purchased with a hard drive, the rebate form lists no such condition. So go and grab one now, with a $10 off coupon you actually make $10!

Yes. Either the packing slip or a Staples.com printed order confirmation/receipt is acceptable for rebate claims.

Staples Rebates (Parago) is generally considered one of the more reliable rebate processors out there.

I also just picked up the card without the hard drive and used my 10 off 40 coupon to get the drive for $29.94 plus a pack of chiclets.

Rebate and the rebate receipt printed along with the regulare receipt. I got mine at the Woburn, MA store next to Compusa. They had about 5 of them on the shelves.

You are making $8+ on this, go get it.

Rebate good for purchases from Dec 8 to Dec 14.
