and looking at xfire reviews... sure does seem a mixed bag...

my reason to get this board would be to swap out the ecs cheepie from a frys deal... it would let me get 3.2 from the 4500 instead of 2.9... i was looking at the $100 3850 at buy.com to replace the xt1800 in this box, then maybe double it up later... this is my tv box, and the nvidia cards just don't work right with my mitsu 65in tv... the ati card has much better iq and scaling... i am assuming that the 3850 will be at least as good in iq as the 1800...

there is no doubt that xfire and sli are kind of iffy bargains... if u have cards sitting around that have dropped in value hugely then adding a second cheep card may make sense, but it seems that faster single cards are still the better buy overall...

case in point is my sli 8600gts system... got one 8600 for free and the second for $50... performance is ok for $50, but if i sold both cards for $100 and got a 8800gs i'd have better overall performance... even a gts320 for $100 would be better at the 1440 res that the 8600's are good for...

Thank goodness Foxconn finally ditched their old rebate house (Rebate411) - that company was horrendous about rebates, borderline scamming. I would have warned you to stay far, far away from the rebate if that were the case.

The Tempe, AZ address for the new rebate house leads me to believe that it's the same company that handles Corsair rebates, so I wouldn't be concerned about it at all. They're not the fastest, but they're reliable. I think Mushkin, Powercolor/Zogis, and some other companies also use the Tempe rebate house.

If you check around HardForum, BensBargain, FatWallet, and other hot deals forums, there are various lengthy threads about people having to call up Rebates411 and harass them to get their rebates. Anyways, I'm glad you personally didn't have to jump through hoops to get your rebate, but I'd just as soon deal with a more reliable rebate company.

Yeah, I saw that too, but sometimes you just don't know unless someone's actually tried it. Thanks for the input though. I think I may end up going for this.

I have 3 rebates in since december totalling $90 and I have not heard from them. Guess I need to call them, I would not buy any foxconn products, I am using ecs with no hassle.

I JUST CHECKED THE REBATES411 SITE AND NOW THEY SAY THEY HAVE NO RECORD OF MY REBATES. THATS IS A LIE BECAUSE I WENT THROUGH THE HOOPS TO FILL IN THE INFO AT THEIR SITE. NOW I AM AT A LOSS.

I bought two of these boards from ZZF in February. They came with a May 2007 BIOS, so in order to get my SATA drives to work with AHCI, I needed to flash the BIOS, which is OK without a hard drive but a "no go" without a CPU. So, I don't know about Wolfdale chips working out of the box, unless the shipped BIOS you get is up to date. As far as OC, I have my stock HSF e6600 2.4Ghz going at 2.91GHz stable under Prime95 and OCCT without ANY modifications, other than increasing the FSB to 1290 under the Manual options of Fox Control in the BIOS. Temp goes to 65C under stress but stays at 38C normally. With better cooling... and adding more juice... 1333 should not be a problem. AAMOF, I got to 3.01Ghz with the stock HSF and increasing the voltage to 1.3 but the temps went up to 71C, although OCCT and Prime95 were stable after 10 hours. I didn't like hearing the temp alert alarm going off though. The cooling system is key. Nice board for the dough.

Seems like mixed reviews. Been looking at the Abit IP35 Pro, but this would save me some cash.....

My last Corsair rebate took 6 months, so this may do the same. they send you an email about 5 months after you submitted the form and tell you they are processing the rebate. They send out the rebate about 1 month later. At least that is what they did with me.

Ya know, I never saw any pre/re-views on this Foxconn P35A board. I did research Foxconn, and they are a very well established OEM, and now direct to consumer, manufacturer. If I were willing to spend more $ for cooling improvements, then I could push this board. But...for absolutely no outlay, I can get a 20% OC. I paid $79.99 for these boards. That's a good price for a quality board. With a no brainer OC... I would say go for it at this new low price.

Is this thing missing two SATA ports? I see two solder points where SATA ports should be. I mean, 4 SATA total? That's pretty paltry for a modern ATX board...

Yes it is. The board, P35A, has an ICH9 Southbridge. Its bigger brother, the P35A-S, has the ICH9R Southbridge which gives it the extra two SATA ports as well as FireWire. Both boards have an eSATA port on the back panel, but neither of my P35A boards worked for that port, so I just used an add in port and plugged it in internally. The board works fine, as long as you update the BIOS so you can use the AHCI HD capability. And again, you can get a 20% OC without doing anything other than upping the FSB from 1066 to 1290. After that, well it gets involved with increasing voltage and adding better cooling. But a free 20% is OK with me.
