bdub, I know this sounds like a no-brainer, but have you connected both PCI-e power connectors? You should also try uninstalling and reinstalling the card in the PCI-e slot (or try the other slot if you have 2). If you're using two monitors, try booting with just one, and try that one monitor in each DVI port. You could also boot into VGA mode. That will allow you to install your drivers but force it to 640x480 resolution in case the higher resolution is the problem. Once you install the drivers and reboot into normal mode, you might find that it works just find.
In other words your problems might be solved by normal troubleshooting and might not at all be related to the problems of this slow batch of XFX 4890s.
At ~120 usd (bing + ebillme), all I want is it to be at least on par with a 4870.
I passed up a new 4870 1GB for $110 + shipping for this deal, so I'm not going to settle for less performance than what a 4890 should give. Basically if I get what bdub did and post an 8k Vantage gpu score, then this thing is going back. I'd much prefer to get it replaced with a better version, but I'll at least fight for a refund.
My main reason for getting this was because nothing is going to be able to match the 4890's performance at this price for quite a while. However, if this only performs like a 4870, then I could've either gone with one of those or a 5770 for the same price, or I could've just waited to buy a card altogether.
Edit: bdub, I'm glad that worked for you! I'm looking forward to your scores (I think).
I see your point, I jumped on this after seeing those 5830 scores and prices . I just hope TD doesn't try to avoid a refund and make me go through XFX first.
My XFX 4890 has been shipped, but won't arrive until Monday. I sent in the ebillme rebate already too. I'm already selling my 4830 on ebay.... So it seems like I won't be gaming for a little while. On the other hand, I won't have much else to do but focus on finals! XD

hm if I cancel will I not be able to make use of the $20 back from ebillme next time I order something and pay that way?
Refurbs suck IMO.
Nice threadcrapping.
The issues involved in this thread have absolutely nothing to do with this being a refurb and everything to do with TD shipping the wrong card. If they shipped the RB-HD489AZDF that they were supposed to, then we'd all be jumping up and down like little schoolgirls. Unfortunately that didn't happen.
I'm just glad I didn't wast MY time on this deal and decided to wait for the prices of the new ones to come back down to reality. Then you know what your getting.
Actually, if TD can claim to sell an AZDF and ship a ZDFC, then the same thing could happen with a new one. As already stated, the problem isn't that this is a refurb; it's that TD didn't ship the card that they claimed to be selling.
And, if you hate refurbs, then why waste YOUR time posting in a hot-deals thread about refurbs. It's akin to hating XFX, opening this thread, and posting "XFX sucks IMO."
putting "IMO" in your post doesn't necessarily mean you are not threadcrapping.
Buy them books and send them to school. What do you get? I bunch of opinated know-it-alls with no reading comprehension. I just post the truth the way I see it. IMO, YO don't mean squat.
