Open box deal at Newegg

I was wondering if anyone will buy open box MOBO from Newegg. It is about $30 to $40 less then what you pay retail.

Is it safe to buy? I guess I wonder if you build system around it will be stable and reliable.

When Newegg first started doing those open box deals, you could often get a complete motherboard with all retail accessories for super cheap. That was maybe a year or so ago. Since then, they have been selling just the bare motherboard, sometimes accessories, but don't count on it.

It becomes a major problem when you get a board with no I/O plate, because few motherboards use a standard layout these days. So then yo uhave to go to the manufacturer for a $10 I/O plate, and heck, maybe some special raid software, cd, cables. now you're back up to the cost of retail.


Long story short, I'll pass. Unless someone posts here that Newegg has actually started selling with accessories again.

i've bought most of my motherboards open box from newegg, about half came with all accessories. some mobo manufactuers will send u accessories for free (just pay shipping), DFI sent me i/o plate, cables & soundcard for $12 shipped

u can pick up i/o shields for less than $10 from ebay if you get stuck trying to find one

I bought an A7N8X Deluxe a few years ago open box from newegg. It's been a champ the whole time.

It all really depends on how sizeable the price difference is. One time apples to apples (refurb shipped vs. retail shipped) the difference was closer to $50. IIRC Asus charges around $20 shipped for their accessory pack so my savings were somewhat substantial. Mostly everything in the accessory packs can be found online so unless you need some cables, check eBay for the I/O plate. If its readily available for a decent price, why not?

people overclock and blow their components too much now these days
i don't even like buying oem from newegg
