Hello All. First post here.
My brother is spending time away from home and was considering a laptop to do his 3D art work on while he's away from home, stuck in a hotel room. But he's on a tight budget (£1000 ish)
I suggested an alternative, a mini-ITX based system that he can throw in a bag with a monitor, giving much better bang-per-buck. This all works out lovely AFAICT, with a Ryzen 1700 in a Fractal Design node 202 case.
The main question I have is the choice of graphics card. In his main system (2-3 year old i4930k based) he has a AMD Firepro W5000 which he's fairly happy with, but it does slow down a bit when working on larger models, probably due to it only having 2GB video RAM. I've been diligently doing research, but can't find much to help me.
His 3D package of choice is Rhino 5, and he's using the associated Flamingo renderer. He's not using GPU rendering. Nor does he game. Like I said, he's on a pretty tight budget, so I was considering a GTX 1050Ti based card. Performance doesn't have to be earth shattering, considering his current set up, but decent value for money is a must. What I would really like is a comparative list of OpenGL benchmarks for various cards, so he can make an informed choice. I've looked at McNeel's (Purveyor of aforementioned softwares) site, but much seems contradictory or out of date.
Can anyone who has experience of this sort of thing offer me some advice?
