opening up the PSU

hey guys

my computer is making this really great annoying buzzing-ish sound, i've tracked it down to the PSU fan. i want to open it up and mayb oil it up or replace the fan.. any precautions i should take before opening the PSU up? i've never done it and i dont really intend on getting shocked...

unplug the PS from the wall
with the PS still plugged into the MB, press the power button a few times (you might see the CPU fan spin a tad)
let sit for as long as possible to be extra safe

The danger of shock in there is from the capacitors which can hold a charge for hours after the PSU is plugged out. Turning the computer on with the PS plugged out will help to drain whatever is left inside the caps. If you're nervous about getting a shock from any residual juice, then leave it plugged out when you go to bed and work on it the next day.

Lubing the fan is relatively simple. Just unscrew it, peel back the label that covers the bearings and put a few drops of oil into the hole and press the label back down. You'll also have the chance to vacuum out the supply and clean the accumulated crud off the fan blades.
