Changes since Opera 11.51

Display and scripting
Fixed
  • Adjusting volume on a YouTube HTML5 Video causes freeze
  • Fixed a non-exploitable bug which allowed injection of untrusted markup into the X-Frame-Options error page, as reported by Masato Kinugawa.

Network
Fixed
  • Crashes when downloading via BitTorrent

Security
Fixed
  • Fixed an issue where manipulating fonts in SVG could allow execution of arbitrary code; see our advisory

Nothing exciting. Just downloaded it.

By the way if anyone was curious this is supposed to be the last bugfix build before Opera 12. Opera 12 is supposed to feature full hardware acceleration on all OS through OpenGL: http://my.opera.com/desktopteam/blog/2011/10/13/introducing-opera-12-alpha
Hardware acceleration through DirectX (Which is how almost every other browser does it at the moment as I understand it.) is not in the snapshot builds yet.
The updated Snapshot of Opera 12 is here: http://my.opera.com/desktopteam/blog/2011/10/20/hardware-acceleration-fixes
That blog linked earlier allegedly has a huge memory leak on Windows.

hows bad is the ram leakage on the browser?

I am getting FED UP WITH FIREFOX... im done with it and looking for a new browser which doesnt have ram leakage, or has a ram wipe internally that clears the ram after time.

Basically NO MORE BS like this:

and it happens EVERY TIME im on the forums for a while...

Damn. How do you use your browser? It takes me a couple of days to get FF up to 1.6GB. And I thought that 32-bit applications were limited to 2GB RAM?

i need to moderate forums which means i am going to load a ton of pictures.

I also have my own photobook album which i need loaded.

Then i have my Japanese comic readers... and b4 i know it... its already at 1+gigs.

If i add youtube on top, then its good night for my browser unless i restart.

Anyhow couple question b4 i decide to try opera.

1. Is the ram usage OK? it wont pile and pile and pile?
2. Does it allow me to move temp files onto another drive...
3. Spell Checker without having to push a button... does it have an active spell checker?

I haven't tried 11.52, but in my experience with 11.50 and 11.51 memory usage is lower than on Firefox and Chrome. I've never had it over 1GB, whereas Firefox goes over that for me every other day.

Yes, there is a spell checker.

No idea about temp files.

Are you a developer?

I love opera, been using it for over a decade. Keep up the good work.

1) ram usage is OK, it can get up there but ive never seen it act like FF and ive been using opera for about a decade, it can get op there

2) i believe you can change it - type "opera:config" (no quotes) in the address bar and it takes you to the super preferences, you should be able to change the temp location there

3) yes it has an active spell checker like FF, underlines words in red when they are misspelled and you can right click and change them

the opera community is great as well, and the forums are pretty helpful if you have issues or questions

With the newest 12 Alpha and hardware acceleration turned on, my memory usage never goes of 500MBs(with a dozen or so tabs active) even with Opera set to use up to 400MB for cache. Stable releases seem to use near the same amount, but I've been running the Alpha daily now so I don't have any exact numbers.

I'm on 12 Alpha right now. Feels slightly slower than 11.52, whohc makes sense since it's alpha for a major revision.

Not sure I like how it revs up my GPU fan on normal webbrowsing though.
