I did do a search, but if this has already been posted.

Opera Win32 Download

I am downloading the non-java verison. Will I have any problems. I already have IE 5.5 installed. So surely this will install the Java Runtime Module..

I have made an app which uses Javascript, loads of Asp and XML. And I am really interested in this. Its works flawlessly with IE 5.0 and 5.5. But a few of my customers hate IE and prefer to run with Nutscrape. So Im hoping Opera does the biz.

Anyone else gonna download this. I see alot of messages hateing IE 5.5. Perphaps this is better?

Comments would be grateful!

[edit]Sorry for the non-coheriant typing. Im so excited and want to get up and running as soon as possible[/edit]

Ah, ok. First 5 minutes of what I think.

Yes very nice. But am I missing something???

msdn.microsoft.com....

The tab bar isn't there. I suppose this is what non-IE browsers see? Also where are the menus??

www.brainjar.com...

Whats going on?? This is an up-to-date browser, and brainjar is blocking it, because it only allows IE 5.5 and NS 6.0 Browsers?? Sh!te! Opera 5.0 should support lots of nice compliant features, and isn't allowed on this site!

www.webreference.com

Went on this site, and some of the javascript isn't working. I even check-out hiermenus, which is the menu structure I use for my site, and nothing is working...

www.ivanpeters.com

This excellent TOC written by Ivan Peters which is based on Javascript, DOES NOT WORK. OMG!!

my application..

Dang, it does not even work. None of it!

Oh well back to IE 5.5

Tell you what. Im going to download the Java Runtime. Perphaps this will help!

Cheers

Ugghhhh.

Finished downloading the Java Runtime. Didn't think it would help.

The Javascript on this puppy is definately screwed-up. I have visited a lot of DHTML sites, and nothing works with it.

Umm, now I wonder why IE has so much of the market!

This thing just sux for standards!!

Correction, IE sucks when it comes to standards. Opera has 100% compliance with the WC3 guidelines.

Sure, IE is a really good browser, and their proprietary gadgets make some webpages really nice, but also incompatible with other browsers.

And all webpages are designed to be at least representable on IE, compatibility with other browsers comes to the second place, since their market share is so low.

Hmm, I've surfed to a number of sites that have flash stuff, and Java running, and it's working fine. (Yes, I'm using it right now). It's so fast, it's scary. I think I'm going to keep using it till it fails, but it would have to be a MAJOR failure to give me an alternative to using IE 5.5 and it's cpu hogging, crash prone crap. At least if this dumps, I can kill it w/out restarting windows. AND, I can use the same browser on my Linux box, so I can 'get comfortable' in ONE browser, not multiple ones. :0)

Does anyone know if Opera will have a 5.0 version that does not have Ad banners?

I've downloaded it and am using it now in parallel with Netscape. The sh/tty part, so far, is that I can't use Hotmail correctly - it'll display existing messages fine, but if I try to reply to an existing one, it does some really wierd stuff with the frames... urgh!... anyone see this besides me?

Of course, Hotmail is Micro$oft...

Using it right now
Works great, haven't noticed any revolutionary changes (that's good and bad). The ICQ integration at this stage is nothing really more than a preview of what is possible, but I am looking forward to see an enhanced messaging support in the next versions.

Opera 4 and 5 are both not good at all in DHTML, but AFAIK DHTML is a proprietary standard by MS, and has not yet been set in stone by the W3C so that is not surprising.
Opera works fine for nearly all sites I visit, but I don't really use JavaScript, XML or DHTML so I might be lucky. In the few cases I do need to view a DHTML site, I just use IE5, but I am glad to turn it off ASAP.

BTW, according to the help, the registred version of Opera does not display any ads.

Thing is Hawkeye_(BEL), even if IE isn't 100% compliant like Opera, then who cares. What the makers of Opera should have done, was make it 100% compliant, and then make it do what IE 5.0, 5.5 does and do it better!!. Then it would sway all the developers who program primarily where the market is, (M$ IE) and it might start to take the market share away...

Look at one of the sites I mention, www.ivanpeters.com. This is a very good piece of programming. Its main intention was to be a cross browser. It works with all verisons of IE and NS. But guess what, does not work with Opera. For me Opera is a pile of sh!te. Unless they can make it do what IE 5.0 and IE 5.5 and better. Then it won't take off, as a serious browser.

Ah well, who cares its only a browser..

I won't lose any sleep over it.

IE rules, and unless Nutscrape and Opera get their acts together, IE will still rule!

You got to love the one-key shortcuts like toggling graphics, zoomming in and out and many others. I simply love this browser. It's not Opera's fault that Microsoft breaks the rules for web standards and thus forcing all the web developers to design sites that work well only with Microsoft's IE. It's like their Office monopoly and Word file format. How can one always stay 100% compatible with MS Word file format? It is simply impossible. But if we give alternative browsers like Opera and Mozilla a chance may be MS' influence wouldn't be so strong.
